I have to go to Vegas in February for a conference – which is the last place in the world I would choose to visit – but while I am there I thought it would be fun to see a show. I won’t gamble, it’s not my thing. My husband thinks he is going to come with me and he wants to golf. We have the option of staying in the conference hotel on the strip – OR at a corporate guest house 12 miles west at Red Rock Country Club.

Question … what shows are amazing and awesome?

Would you stay at the conference hotel (conference is paying for a basic room … I am a speaker) or at the fully furnished, fully functional gorgeous spectacular 4000 sf corporate model home owned by my husband’s company? We’ll have to pay a nominal cleaning fee. We have stayed at similar guest houses around the country, but have not seen this one. Either way, if he comes with me and wants to golf, we’ll need a car.

Since you don’t plan on gambling, your H wants to golf,I’d stay at the Red Rock…much more luxurious…that said,I’d stay on the strip ,for the excitement of Vegas, though I enjoy gambling and don’t golf…If I were with my W,i’d choose the Wynnn

Second the Beatles Love show. Loved it! We had seats at the top of the venue because of booking late and they were amazing. At what hotel is the conference?

If you’re speaking, stay at the conference hotel the night before you speak. Traffic can be awful and you don’t want to be stressed. After that, move out to Red Rock for a few days and enjoy the best of the Nevada countryside, it’s lovely out there.

Another vote for Love and Jersey Boys - saw them both this summer and loved them. We saw 3 Cirque shows (KA, Zumanity and Love) and Love was our favorite! Jersey Boys tells a really good story and it you’re a Frankie Valli fan you can’t beat it.

I saw Donna Summer, Lola Falana and James Darren there. And, I saw a show at the Riviera that featured Miss Nude World 1984.
Boy, that seems like a hundred yrs ago.

Any of the Cirque shows. We have seen them all except O. There are discount ticket locations all up and down the strip that open around 10:00AM. Many of the Cirque shows are available at discount prices. O never seems to be. We saw the new Cirque Elvis show last March, we paid full price, and it was quite good although the reviewers weren’t thrilled with it. It is in the new City Center complex. We also saw their adult show Zumanity, at discount, which isn’t for everyone. The humor took the edge off the sex, but do not sit downstairs in the theater. You risk have naked people, some of them weighing close to 300 pounds, climbing over you. I also liked the Bette Midler and Rita Rudner shows. Walking around LV is a show in itself. The only show that we have seen in the last two years that I didn’t like was The Phantom of the Opera.

I have seen O twice, Ka twice, LeReve, Love, Mystere, Bette Middler. We think O and Ka are the best. I liked Love a lot; my H not as much. It has a lot of dancing in it. My H is an engineer and really liked the water effects of O. Ka has a delightful story to it. Very worth the money for those two shows and worth paying for best seats you can get.

We have talked about staying at Red Rock and have heard good things about it. I think that would be better than a basic room at your conference hotel, esp. if your H wants to golf.

Been to Vegas 3 times and have seen a number of shows. Ka is my favorite Cirque show and Love is a close second. Also saw Jersey Boys and like it very much. We went to see Phantom of the Opera two years ago (don’t know if it’s still there). H and I were probably the only people who hadn’t seen it previously; we enjoyed the production in Vegas. We also saw LeReve–which I didn’t like at all.

Wow thanks for the tips. Next question … since everyone seems to know where RedRock Country Club is … (12 miles west of the strip) … what’s a cab going to cost me to go back and forth? I’m assuming that parking is out of the question … and I am also assuming that DH won’t be thrilled with driving me in for the conference (at Harrah’s since someone asked) early early.

ETA: OK, I’m dumb. And clueless. Free parking in Harrah’s 7 story garage. Free valet parking also. Forgot it was a casino and the whole point is to get you in the door to gamble. Valet parking is free at the Connecticut casinos also … which I only go to for trade shows. AC you have to pay tho …

Paid full price for seats 8 rows back at KA. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. And I’m don’t part with a dollar easily My jaw was on the floor the whole show. The entire family was awed!

We stayed on the strip high enough up to see down the strip and also the sunrise in the morning. The new citycentral is AMAZING inside. Free trams from on the NY NY side of the block which save on the walking.

Free valet parking everywhere so not to worry. Also by pass the traffic by driving behind the hotels (behind the montecarlo etc.) on the access roads. No traffic.

I have stayed at the red rock. It is beautiful. The cab to the strip was very pricey but they run a shuttle. The shuttle wont work for a show night though as it stops running at around 10 pm…call red rock and talk to the bell desk before making your decision.

“O” from Cirque du Soleil hands down the best show I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a lot around USA as well as abroad. Don’t skip on that if playing.

We have also been there, just for conferences. Saw Ka, loved it. Got FRONT ROW center seat AND at half price simply by my hubby googling for a half price Las Vegas coupons the day of!
