shs privacy

I had a question about shs that I couldn’t find the answer to in past threads. I know it says on their website that they do not relate medical information to your parents, but if you have medication charged to your student account and you parent is an authorized payer for ucsd bills. Will they be notified of the charge and be able to see what it is?

I think they’ll be able to see a charge from the UCSD pharmacy (or SHS), but it shouldn’t say what specific med it’s for. In the future, you might think about paying by cash/check if you want to keep it hidden from them. Also, if your permanent address is still at your parents’ house, sometimes inconvenient things (like late-night ER bills) also get sent there.

i received my billing statement from shs recently. i got multiple types of medicine, but each one that i was charged for was simply called “pharmaceuticals provided”. my lab tests were called “miscellaneous medical services”.
so its very discreet.
like astrina mentioned, if you’d like more privacy, you can pay upfront. but the pharmacy does not accept cash, only cards.
