Just to be clear: it looks like the kid who posted that thread chose not to apply to any safeties, because he is looking at the local community college as the safety. That is a certainly an appropriate and logical choice to make, given the high cost of college. But it’s not the case of a student being shocked by results. The student wrote that “most” of the results were in, and “I either got waitlisted or reject by every school i applied to, which is fine,” and then asks for suggestions about getting accepted off the waitlist. I don’t think the student would have written “which is fine” if the results were entirely unexpected.
And it definitely is not a “shut out” if the student is comfortable with the CC route, as that student clearly is.
