“This has been an extremely successful partnership, but as the Siemens Foundation evolves to tackle new challenges in the field of STEM education effective July 2013, the Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement will be discontinued. Congratulations to all past awardees, your excellence in STEM will continue to shape the future of our global society.”

Anybody as upset about this as I am?

):

It is sad but that is what budget cuts can do.

What did this program do if I may ask???

Nice simple scholarship. Male and female in each state with the most 5’s on math and science AP tests get 1000 dollars and most in the nation get 5000 dollars. Tie breaker being raw scores in the AP tests.

Taking many AP classes is good. But top number of AP classes taken is not a good indication of student achievement.

Number of AP classes taken has everything to do with when and how many AP classes schools offer. Some good AP classes were discontinued because of “lack of student interest”, Data Structure is an example. Other advanced courses, such as Linear Algebra, Differential Equation, or Quantum Physics are not even in AP.
