Junior year is the year that will either break or make my application.
No lie. With SAT’s, SAT II, AP exams, ecs, it doesn’t get any worse.
Argh, this is going to be insane.
At the start of an AP course, does your teacher force you to take a diagnostic test?

yes or no for bio, calc, english, and american history?

I’m sure it would depend on the teacher. Mine never did. I see no reason why a calc teacher would give a diagnostic test at the beginning of the year considering you haven’t been taught calc before…

A couple of my teachers (IB) have given “diagnostic tests” at the beginning of the course. The test doesn’t count for marks, but it gives the teacher an idea of what sort of background the students have, and which areas need more work than others. The tests in my experience focus on the material that should have been covered in the pre-req courses, rather than the material that will be covered later in the course.

I think he meant a diagnostic test over the material you had already learnt last year. I haven’t taken some of these classes yet (taking them coming fall), but according to my friends who took it this year:

Bio: No
Calc: Yes. Tested over stuff in precalc
Eng: No
U.S. History: No

Personally, I’ve taken 5 APs so far and have never had to take a diagnostic test at the start of an AP course… yet. My next year Chemistry teacher did, however, gave us study materials to look over during the summer with the hint of a test when school starts.

I’ve been told that I’m having a test on the first day of AP Physics to make sure I’ve memorized all of the equations we did in honors physics… but my teacher is lazy, so it probably won’t happen. :P

btw, if you space out your SATs so that they are nowhere near AP tests (i.e., take them in December, January), they won’t seem quite as bad… then take the subject tests for your AP courses on the May exam date, which is usually just before the AP tests, so you’ll have studied all the stuff already. (firm believer in studying as little as necessary)

No for all. For bio and chem you’ve had to have taken honors already, so that’s the prereq. USH, duh most of us are Americans so we’ve been exposed to the stuff for awhile. For calc, I’ve heard that the kids had to take a test to pass out of precalc but I never had to.

dude you honestly worry/stress too much; chill, play some games (hardcore), sleep, relax, eat, drink, sleep, rest, play games, sports, chill, sleep, eat, sleep, listen to music, and sleep.

Wow calm down! Summer just started! Don’t worry junior year FLEW by! I took SATs, ACTs, SATs again, AP Tests, SAT Subject tests all in a row in the last few months of the 2nd semester and surprisingly my GPA was better in the last quarter than in the first quarter.

By the way, for AP Chem, there were kids that didn’t even take regular chemistry in my class yet by the end of the year, I definitely believe they got some good AP scores coming up. It seems there are probably more than take AP Bio right away instead of regular Bio than the number that did for Chem.

AP Calc no diagnostic unless your teacher does one?

Ohwell, senior year and although I am taking all AP classes and gym, I think it will be chill (don’t jinx it!) :).

Advice that made my Junior Year MUCH BETTER (my plan for this past year)

Study for SATs this summer, end of July for the October 2008 Test.
You’ll be uber prepared for PSATs, too, so you don’t have to worry. This is the MOST IMPORTANT. Get your SATs done-the worst part about the SAT is not knowing what you’re going to get. By doing it really early, you have a “baseline” and you can only go up. Who knows? You might get a 2400, or you might not do quite as well as you hoped. It doesn’t matter-you still have a ton of months to fix that!
