Sigma Phi

Is Sigma Phi reputable? Nobody seems to mention it in the frat ranking threads, but I passed it when I was heading to PiKapps, and heard some tattooed hipster guys talking about it at a coffee place. I wanted to understand what the deal was before I considered rushing for winter.

You’ll commonly hear Sigma Phi referred to as Metal Frat. It chose to depart the IFC some time ago, and now operates as a separate and self-sustaining entity. It is reputable, but I believe it is considerably different from other fraternities. It’s a somewhat rock music-oriented frat, hence the name, and they attract musically-inclined members and partiers by having live bands at their house. It’s interesting. It’s probably the only social fraternity I would have considered.

My son is pledging now, not a musician or major party player… They are the house next to the one with the beach volleyball court. They are not soley metal but a bunch of diverse guys, some in Ross and others LSA.
I have been to their tailgate party on Parents weekend and had a great time. I would recommend you speak with some pledges and brothers outside the house to get a feel.

^That’s sigma chi. Metal frat isn’t in IFC and isn’t relevant socially. They do their own thing and probably let anyone in who wants to join.

What do you mean by “isn’t relevant socially”?

^Well they don’t mix with sororities or have parties really. From what I know it’s just a group of guys who like that kind of music and live/hang out together. More of an unofficial social club.
