Significance of Class Rank

For the SCEA round, my guidance counselor filled out my School Report online, putting me at top 10% as that was the highest he could classify since our school doesn’t rank

Two days after submitting that, we decided that we would do the rest my schools offline so he could write top 1%. Subsequently, we also decided to send Yale an offline report indicating that I was top 1%. I called Yale, and emailed my admissions officer to warn them of the incoming package, and both responses said it was perfectly fine, and they would add it to my files.

Today, I found out that the offline report was never received. Lucky, I was deferred last night so I still have a chance.

Any input on how significant a difference top 10% -> top 1% will make?

I may be wrong, but I would say that “estimated” class rank in unranked schools is a vague enough statistic that the 1% vs. 10% will make little to no difference.

My school does not rank, I list myself as top 10% on all applications, and Yale accepted me! I can’t imagine that your rank being reported as 10% as opposed to 1% affected your decision in a significant way.
