Signing the official papers...

When do most sign the papers? I’m not sure if we’re going to revisits. and I wouldn’t want to do it before then… but my Andover decision will be back within the next week I think (special acommodations… they didn’t get full app until march 8th because it was lost in the mail… but they knew i wasn’t a late applicant). IF I were accepted to both, I would decide entirely on revisits.

Sounds to me like you’d sign the papers after your Andover decision comes back and, if that decision is affirmative, then it would be after both revisits. Am I missing something? Does it even matter when most sign the papers…since you’ve got your gameplan figured out?

EDIT: I’ve added a decision making chart to help clarify things. But it’s really all based on what you, yourself, said you’re going to do:

Step 1: Wait for Andover decision. If decision is YES, go to Step 3. If decision is NO, go to Step 2.

Step 2: Sign PEA papers. Go to Step 8.

Step 3: Attend revisit at PEA or Andover. If PEA, go to Step 4. If Andover, go to Step 5.

Step 4: Attend revisit at Andover. Go to Step 6.

Step 5: Attend revisit at PEA. Go to Step 6.

Step 6: Decide which school you prefer. If Andover, go to Step 7. If PEA, go to Step 2. If decision is after April 10, go back to your current HS (and, hopefully, Step 8).

Step 7: Sign Andover papers. Go to Step 8.

Step 8: Have a terrific HS experience.

Yeah, but I don’t know exactly when the Andover decisions will be out… and I hate to keep Exeter waiting… I feel like I’m doing a disservice to the kids on the wait list and all of the people (admissions offiers, the principal, etc.) who helped me get in.

Look…it’s not like you’re sitting on a couple offers of admission just twiddling your thumbs. Everyone’s got until April 10. That’s the date that the schools set…for their own best interests. Of all the people out there, I think you – with a real live application pending – ought to feel the least pressured to deliver a response prior to the date that the school requires you to respond by.

What’s more…there won’t be any movement on the WL if you were to decline Exeter’s offer. They assume that some people will say, “no.” They’re not going to run to the wait list upon receiving your answer. They’re going to look at the big picture that they won’t be able to see until April 10.

Just take a deep breath. And decide by April 10. There’s no unwritten earlier deadline or courtesy date for you to abide by. The day it becomes a hardship on the schools to have you wait that long to reply…you can bet the farm that they will change the date for you to reply.

Until you receive an answer from Andover…and go through the steps above…you would have to make an uninformed (or underinformed) decision. I would not be in any sort of rush to make such a decision. Only once you have received all the input and information you require (or April 10 is bearing down on you) should you even begin to feel compelled to deliver your final answer to the schools.

(Besides, you didn’t see any of them feeling pressured to give the rest of us decisions prior to March did you?)

Choose wisely. That means, take your time.
