Signing up for classes online before orientation?

I was on StudentLink and just for the heck of it attempted to sign up for courses. Before allowing you to do this, it asks for a code that your advisor/counselor is supposed to give you (I assume this is so you wait 'till orientation to sign up, after they’ve talked to you about it), but I was wondering if I could get that code from someone who’s already been to orientation and not have to wait until my orientation to sign up. Does this work?

everyone has their own code so you have to get it from your advisor. sorry.

You could try phone-in registration to register for classes before orientation. Once you’ve been registered, they’ll send you a print-out of your class schedule and your code so that you can make changes to your selected courses if necessary.

daughter (intl student) is signed up for Aug 29 orientation. SHA advisor won’t allow her to register for anything before then…nor will she even answer our questions. So even though freshmen in other schools are able to sign up online, by phone, etc…it looks like the SHA kids are out of luck. Anybody else have this problem?

my main question for now is can SHA freshmen place out of MA 120? This course sounds like an algebra I class, but yet seems to be mandatory. I know kids look at it as “an easy A”, but I look at it as a very expensive waste of time.

thanks,
SHA mom

Any student can place out of ma 120. It’s only mandatory for you to take a math class. I took a different one (MA121? I don’t remember. It was like calc 2). When you take the math assessment your scores aren’t actually reported to anyone. It’s just for your own interpretation of which level math class you should take. You can really take whatever you want.
