Signing up for classes?

Hi, I am an engineering major in class of 2011. So far, I have only signed up for my engineering intro classes and registered for swim test. My question is, when do I sign up for PE classes, writing seminar, and other liberal arts classes to fulfill my requirements, science classes, etc.? The reason is that I need to know my schedule before I can sign up for a job to fulfill my work-study eligibility.

i think we do that during orientation week

pre-enrollment is during orientation. the writing seminars start a little later than normal classes do, and you pick them after you pick other classes, too.

So that pre-enrollment includes elective classes to fulfill my liberal arts requirement, right?

As an engineer (at least last year this is what they did) you were pre-enrolled in either an Intro to Engineering or Comp Sci 100, based on what you indicated on your pre-enrollment card. Also, based on your AP credit in Math and Science and major preference, you get pre-enrolled in a math class and a science. This schedule will be online on the 13th and you’ll receive it during Orientation week. Its not final though, after you meet with your advisor you will be able to change your schedule during Add/Drop. As far as any other reqs, such as liberal arts, many first semester freshmen in engineering choose not to take any because they already have 16-17 credits for engineering requirements. If you did want to add a lib. arts class that would have to be done during add/drop period which starts the 22nd. There is no “pre-enrollment” during orientation. Chances are you’ll be changing your schedule, so don’t freak out if something weird is wrong (My schedule had me enrolled in 1. a class I didn’t need b/c of AP credit 2. two classes meeting at the same time, but it was very easy to change this). After you get your engineering classes straightened out you can see what FWS classes fit into your schedule and put them on your ballot.

Example Freshmen Engineer Schedule:

Math 191, 192 4 Credits
Science: Chem or Physics 4 Credits
Intro to Engineering (3 Credits) or Comp Sci (4 Credits)
ENGRG 150: Weekly Advisor Meeting 1 Credit
FWS 3 Credits
PE 1 Credit (You go in person to choose a gym class during orientation week)

Obviously, this is not completely rigid everyone has different credits, and some people feel a little more ambitious than others, but if your schedule looks something like this you are on the right track.
