Silent Night? I hope not.

I thought CC’ers might enjoy this column about communicating with a college-age son, from NJ.com. Full disclosure - the author is my sister.

Funny article! My new freshman son called me twice this entire semester. All other communications involved texts or IM. I finally set my gmail to show a popup whenever he accesses his mail (either from phone or computer). This isn’t exactly substantial communication, but at least I know he’s alive and awake…better than nothing.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but S1 is now a senior and the phone calls haven’t become more frequent. I can usually get an answer within 2 hours if I text him. We grilled him about upcoming interviews when he was home for Thansgiving. We got snipets of information before he decided he didn’t want to be interogated amymore!

Cute, since I have non-sharers. Not a gender thing in my house as I have 1 of each. I must’ve raised them that way.

DS sometimes sends me links to news articles about stuff he’s interested in (generally computer or math related).
I figure it’s a form of communication, so I take what I can get…
