Silly question about makeup

Hi all,
Does anyone have a favorite concealer they use for undereye shadows? My mid-50’s skin is dry and I don’t want to use something with too much “drag” or that settles too obviously into the little lines. I read the reviews on Sephora but those seem to mostly be for younger people. So I’m asking the trusty crew on CC for their opinions. Prefer cruelty free brands but am open to almost anything.
What brought this on is that recently I had new passport photos taken and OMG! I have raccoon dark circles under my eyes! Adorable on them, not so much on me. It’s been awhile since I updated my cosmetics, I don’t wear makeup that often anymore so I’m out of the loop, maybe mascara and tinted lip balm from time to time, and always sunscreen. Should probably update my mascara and look into foundation too. Any good makeup tutorials for older women? I take pretty good care of my skin but I can’t stop it from aging, nor do I want to. Just want to work with what I have. My wrinkles are very soft and dewy:wink:
I really hope I put this in the correct category, was looking to put it in the Parent Cafe.

TIA

Do you legit have darkness under the eyes or was it shadows/lighting in a bad picture?

I like IT cosmetics. There is a redness corrector that might work well for under-eye. I love this product for old acne scars and current redness.

They also have a yellow tinted under eye concealer, but I have not used it.

I like the IT full coverage foundation which is (IMO) lighter than the CC cream (counterintuitively?). I apply lightly with a make-up brush.

Good luck! There are an overwhelming amount of choices.

I have tried quite a few under eye concealers and this one works the best for me https://www.nordstrom.com/s/it-cosmetics-bye-bye-under-eye-anti-aging-waterproof-concealer/5690992?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=13.0%20light%20natural%20n%200.1

Tarte shape tape is very popular and I’ve tried it. It is a little tricky as you have to use a sponge and you have to work fast before it dries.

The it cosmetics is for me a little easier. Just a tiny bit and I pat it with my ring finger under my eyes.

I hear that this one is the gold standard, I haven’t tried it as it’s really pricy and I’m not wearing much makeup these days https://www.nordstrom.com/s/cle-de-peau-beaute-concealer-broad-spectrum-spf-25/4708505?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=ivory

It cosmetics and Tarte go on sale all the time on their websites. All the time!

Second IT cosmetics.

Hotandflashy on YouTube - 50 year old skin care and makeup - does tons of tests so you can see up close how things work. She’s super honest.

Best mascara still (I’ve tried many many) cover girl lash blast volume - it’s the orange one. Best eye liner, hands down, Marc jacobs gel eye crayon and skinny gel eye crayon.

@deb922 is correct. Cle de peau is the gold standard. It’s pricey at $70, but lasts 2 years. I now have the dark shadows from inner eye sort of swoop down. This really conceals it. You need to put some moisturizer on first. Get a brush and put it on thin, then pat, then repeat.

The thing I had to learn about concealer is that the dark areas are lower than you expect them to be- not right under the eye (at least for most people), so you have to apply the concealer accordingly.

The Bye Bye Undereye looks interesting… but so many color choices! I certainly would be on the light end of the scale, but not sure how light.

Since this is a likely 50-something crowd, I’ll ask about eyebrow recommendations. I’ve never done much about mine, but these days they seem to be disappearing (probably a combination of aging and going grey-ish). I bought an Ultra product recommended in a review but returned it since it was dried out.

First, not a silly question. For dark circles, you may want to consider a color corrector under the concealer. Peachy tones are best for discoloration. Here are a few options:

Benefit Boing https://www.sephora.com/product/boi-ing-indistrial-strength-concealer-P1273?skuId=2086866

Bobbi Brown https://www.sephora.com/product/corrector-P270555?skuId=1317650

Becca https://www.sephora.com/product/under-eye-brightening-corrector-P393661?skuId=2037596

FYI places like Ulta allow you return things if the color doesn’t turn out right.

I use the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye concealer.

My eyebrows have been disappearing as well. I use a product from Hourglass called Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil. Benefit Cosmetics and Anastasia Beverly Hills are also popular brands.

I usually get light & medium in IT foundation or cc cream. I can blend the colors together.

I have a travel size of tan, if I get dark in the summer and need to blend in to the medium, or use on its own.

Eyebrows? I use a Cover Girl soft pencil. I have brow powder, but rarely use it. My brows are only thin at the ends.

I also use the It Cosmetics Bye Bye under eye concealer. I also like Benefit for brows.

I’ve tried a lot of undereye products and like this one the best.

I have sensitive eyes and this is non-irritating.

For eyebrows, I bought the NeuBrow serum from Nordstrom after my daughter’s eyebrows got noticeably darker from use. I have been using for a couple weeks now and it seems to be working! I am still using a pencil to color until the eyebrows grow in a bit more!

I’ve been using the Neubrow serum for the last few months and have been very happy with the results. My brows are definitely darker and fuller.

I use IT cosmetics bye bye undereye concealer, too. Actually, almost everything I use is from IT cosmetics.

For eyebrows I use an Anastasia eyebrow powder duo and slanted eyeliner brush. To apply.

I also use the duo Anastasia eyebrow powder. I really like the two colors.

I use Tarte Shape Tape concealer and am pretty happy with it. There are many, many shades, which made getting color-matched a must. It’s difficult, though, when there aren’t any testers or reps around to do so.

The It cosmetics concealer brush is on BF sale for $10 at Ulta. It’s one of my favorite brushes.

I’m currently using an NYX brow pencil - a very fine point. Short strokes and then use the attached spoolie brush to blend. Years ago revlon made a tiny kit with powder and brow wax. It was the perfect color. Unfortunately they discontinued it and I’ve mourned it ever since.
