Simple Computer Engineering major question

Is it right for me?
I really want to learn about programming things involving circuit boards…like
I want to make a little project that involves getting a circuit board… and putting stuff on it… then programming it…
Is computer engineering the right major for me? Will I get to learn about the stuff involving a circuit board like capacitors, resistors, etc and how to use them?

Once upon a time, computer hardware courses commonly had lab projects where you put chips (simple ones with a few (N)AND, (N)OR, or similar gates) on boards, wire them up appropriately, and try to make them do something interesting, though simple (like an alarm clock).

Now, the projects involve designing processors and other much more complex things with various CAD tools and simulators.

To answer the question: yes CompE is right for you.

If you’re more interested in the programming side of it than anything else, perhaps you can go the CS route.

If you want to program FPGAs and build custom circuits, CompE would be good for you.

Thank you skbryan! :D
