It is obvious in thes threads/posts a lot of you parents don’t know a lot about computers and the internet. I thought I would start a thread with simple html code you can all understand to make posting on these boards much better. When you are trying to respond to someone it is much easier and better to block off the post you are responding to by citing the quote you are talking about in your post. To do this:

Step 1.) Type left bracket QUOTE right bracket Step 2.) Insert the quote you are referring to by copy and pasting. Step3.) Type exacly
[/QUOTE]

Wah lah, you have a quote you re referring to in your post! It makes it much easier to understand.

That’s not HTML. It’s very similar to HTML, but its called BBCode. Here are some good tutorials and references:
[phpBB BBCode guide](<a href=“phpBB • Frequently Asked Questions”>phpBB • BBCode guide)
[BB Code List - vBulletin Community Forum](http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/misc.php?do=bbcode)

Actually I’ve often been surprised by how extensive most parents’ computer experience seems to be. Anyway, for those that don’t know how to quote, copy and paste the following:

[noparse]
[/noparse]

The key is putting [noparse]
[/noparse] at the end (with the slash).

But honestly what is wrong with just using quotation marks?

gravenewworld, I hope this doesn’t come across as snarky, because I don’t mean it to. I’m bringing it up because this is a tutorial thread.

You typed “wah lah”, which I’ve seen adults do here too - probably because you’ve heard this word spoken but you’ve never seen it written down. The word you’re after is the French word “voila,” which means something like “there you are” or “look at that”.

I was thinking the same thing: It is obvious in the post a lot of you kids don’t know a lot about the use of French words in English conversations on the internet.

simple html code for the 'rents/simple French prepositions for the kids.

gravenewworld:

Don’t forget that some of the parents on this board helped create the computers and the internet that you allege we know nothing about.

I’ll admit I did not know anything about BB codes before visiting this forum until I saw posts from other helpful parents. And, fortunately for us 'rents, CC has included a link to a list of several BB codes in the subsection on “posting new messages” that is included in the FAQ (see the bar at the top or you can also reach it by looking at the Help and Rules at the left)

Calreader: Too shay ;)

Hmmm, just practicing…did it work?

And to answer the question I just posted,

NOTHING :)

scansmom-BOL (This is my own code and is bigger and better than LOL. BOL=Burst out laughing.) :D

Get’s my “quote of the day”…too funny. Rock on fellow 'rents.

Thanks, the BB code guide was very useful. One more thing, how do you insert emoticons in CC? Does not seem to work for me. Thanks

There is also a section on Smilies with a link to their codes in the reading and posting section of the FAQ (those CC folks seem to have thought of everything!) Try : ) without a space :)

Thank you 3bm103 for including the accent grave on voil

All I know is I DNS!

How is that for my code?

Rear Admiral Grace Hopper would probably be ROTFLHAO had she lived to see the advent of social networking.
