Simple question (IB related)

Simple question, tricky answer I’m sure.

How much/well does being an IB diploma candidate actually ameliorate one’s transcript?

I’m looking at HMC and Stanford more than anything else, if that helps, but I’m also just curious in general. I’ve always assumed that because IB was international, that American institutions didn’t give it much credit, (no pun intended). So… yeah. Can it be a make-or-break addition to one’s transcript? Or is it just a little bonus?

I’m pretty sure IB is treated similarly to AP courses at most schools.

It wouldn’t “ameliorate” any transcript; you still need to do well, it just looks better when you do.

Apparently you don’t know what “ameliorate” means.

I was under the impression it meant to make something better. My apologies if I was wrong. Thanks for the feedback.

That is what it means. I was talking to zephyravatar who said “it doesn’t ameliorate it, it just [makes it] better”, which is a contradiction.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I was a tad surprised there for a second. >.<

I’m sorry, I was under the impression that it meant “fix” or “make up for [something]”.
Thanks for correcting me.

Ha, I just learned what ameliorate meant a few weeks ago, and I was like “wow, I am doing something wrong.” Anyways, I think it will look very good. It is the diploma is impressive because it shows much dedication and hardwork, which colleges like. I think geting the IB dimploma looks BETTER than a handful of AP classes, but I am IB baised (all we have at our school).
