kelsmom, I hope this opportunity launches Jeremy in the way that he deserves. He’s an amazing talent. We’ve loved him for a long time!

Tufts’ Beezlebubs did brilliantly on the “The Sing Off”, last year, so much so that they secured a place for themselves on a recent episode of Glee (Perry’s “Teenage Dream”)–they did back up and the arrangements. Go Bubs!!!

My 16 year old D chose to continue watching this for the second hour instead of changing the channel to Gossip Girl. That says it all at our house! She still won’t believe me that all of those “instrument” sounds are created by the people. I thought the groups were all amazing and Ben Folds is a fantastic judge.

Some of the Tufts’ Beezlebubs other Sing-Off performances are on YouTube.

SWHarborfan, you can’t post youtube links here.

<<swharborfan, you=“” can’t=“” post=“” youtube=“” links=“” here.=“”>></swharborfan,>

Gee, I didn’t know. Sorry. I had seen other sorts of links posted elsewhere on CC, so I thought it was okay. I’m sure that someone will tattle, in no time, and the links will be eviscerated.

First, links to videos are not permitted on CC. It is stated in the Terms of Service. That doesn’t meant that ALL links are not allowed. Please read the TOS for what types of links are not permitted.

Second, nobody “tattled” on you regarding your posts on this thread. As a moderator, I saw the posts myself and edited out the links to videos to enforce CC’s guidelines. However, it is a bit much to refer to “tattling” (I gather you mean reporting a problem post) when you have utilized the “report problem post” function on CC yourself on other matters, as recently as today, expecting the mods to enforce the Terms of Service.

<<<however, it=“” is=“” a=“” bit=“” much=“” to=“” refer=“” “tattling”=“” (i=“” gather=“” you=“” mean=“” reporting=“” problem=“” post)=“” when=“” have=“” utilized=“” the=“” “report=”" post"=“” function=“” on=“” cc=“” yourself=“” other=“” matters,=“” as=“” recently=“” today,=“” expecting=“” mods=“” enforce=“” terms=“” of=“” service.=“”>>></however,>

This, too, seems a “bit much” College Mom, citing, irrelevantly, my having reported a post, today, that excoriated and baited an entire group of posters. And, somehow, posting a link didn’t seem as egregious or as worthy of a “public” scolding nor did I know it to be a violation of “Terms of Service,” which I wouldn’t even know where to find such a thing, given my lack of computer saavy.

Thanks for the tactful and gentle reminder.

Here is a link to the Terms of Service on CC’s site:
[College Confidential - FAQ: College Discussion - TOS & FAQ](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_new_faq_item)

It doesn’t matter the severity of the reported post. A post that is in violation of the Terms of Service is then moderated by CC’s moderators. The point was that complaining that people might “tattle” about a violation seems ironic as a member who has relied on the “report post” function that alerts mods to TOS violations. If willing to use the report post function and expecting mods to enforce the rules, then be willing to also be reported if one’s own posts are in violation even if inadvertently.

There is no public “scolding” here for using YouTube links. Since several posts went up about it, I replied to set the record straight and that nobody had “tattled”. The TOS violation itself in this instance is not a big deal.

Any further questions about moderation, please use the Report Post function to contact the moderating team, rather than discuss here.

mafool, you forgot “arrogant” in your Whiffenpoof description! Their singing was good, but the interview before the song was a turn-off. We invented a capella singing?

We could tell the group from NJ would be eliminated, and either the Berklee or group from Seattle was going too. Many great groups in the competition.

I didn’t see the telecast but the Yale Whiffenpoofs are the oldest collegiate a capella group. The group began in 1909. The Sing Off itself is a not just for collegiate groups, however.

Someone asked earlier why the Berklee group got booted. In my opinion, they sounded quite arrogant in their “package”, which created very, very high expectations for them. Then they were a tad off-pitch at times and really had no dynamic contrast at all in their presentation.

Well, the judge (Shawn Stockman) sure called them on that. My D2 and I got a good laugh out of that. At least the group did back up the swagger pretty well, I thought.

See, I thought the whiffenpoofs’ interview package came off as tongue-in-cheek. They are, in fact, the oldest collegiate a cappella group in the country! The Berklee group, though, flat out stated that they knew that their expertise in playing other instruments and the fact that they are at the “Ivey League” of contemporary music schools made them better than everyone else. Then they proceeded to give a mediocre performance.

First heard collegiate a capella at a free concert during D’s first Family Weekend (she’s now a senior, and not into music herself at all). I was enthralled but when I started asking my musical friends for recommendations for recordings/groups, they were mostly fairly contemptuous, except for maybe Gregorian chant. In any case, I’ve been a fan since then, and am intrigued by this program. It was good to be in agreement with the judges about the faults of the performances, although I didn’t always fully appreciate the ones they swooned over. In any case, I wish the show had a longer season!

I think there was a distinct lack of humility evident in several of the groups last night. I hope that they tone down the arrogance in the upcoming shows.

I thought the Whiffenpoofs were a mess. The beginning was ear hurting pitchy and I thought it went downhill from there. I was shocked that they got through. I guess I can’t judge a cappella groups. I liked the group from Nashville. Didn’t like the group so much that did the Beyonce song - bad choice of song and it seemed more like a lead with backup singers. We’ll see if she can tone it down.

mamabear (#30)-- perhaps I am a bit tone deaf here, myself, but I heard the “we invented acapella singing” bit to be ironic.

Maybe not?

I’m really enjoying The Sing Off, as I used to sing in an a capella group in college: “Special K”. As Shawn Stockman kept saying, few people really realize how hard it is to deliver the goods with just voices and no instruments. I loved the Nashville group, the BackBeats, and Committed. The group with the jazz sound was really good, too. The high school group was also surprisingly good. I agree that the Berklee singers failed to deliver as promised in their promo.

I agree about the group that did the Beyoncee song (that was the girl in the blue dress, right?). The judges just raved about them and they were one of the ones I enjoy least.
