I’ve done a lot with singing and musical theatre through high school, and though I know I am not going to major in music or musical theatre it is really what I am best at, and I want to have that help me in application… My guidance counceller/everyone else says that I should really play up my singing, but I don’t know how… Some schools give the option of sending a tape or doing an audition even w/o majoring I think, but I don’t know how much this would do… Anyone know more about this? Spec. schools would be great, preferably in the northeast

you may want to cross post your question on the music major and/or music theater forums. If nothing else, go through some of the post using the search function. There are a number of schools mentioned there that may well suit your needs.

You can send a tape or a video, most colleges will forward it to the appropriate department and get their opinions on it. If you’re a big musical theatre kid, then showing them your most time consuming activity is probably a good idea.

My daughter is a dancer, but do not want to become a professional dancer. She sent in a DVD of her dancing as a supplement. She also made some connections with some professors through her dancing. I think it helped with her applications. It showed her commitment and what she did for EC.

Depending on your stats, Tufts likes students with performing art background, and there is always Boston. There are also Boston U, Yale, Princeton.

My stats are: 3ish GPA unweighted
1540 SATs (just math and reading) 650 on writing

any good schools in NE area that’d fit the stats and the performing… w/o me majoring in music/theatre?
