Single Sex?

I’m very confused about the Tulane college system. By applying to the LAC, do all the classes become single sex? Just how exactly does it work? Thanks.

Tulane College is the historically male school. Newcombe is historically female. It is my understadning that each still operates administratively as a men’s colege and a women’s college with a separate student council, even. However, classes are taught as if everyone is in a single university, as indeed they are. Even the dorm my son will live in is coed by floors, so no, this isn’t a single-sex institution by any means.

I’m purely guessing that ‘Newcombe’ left an endowment to teach and counsel girls…that’s why they keep a separate building so they can maintain the separation and money. But, as ctymom says, EVERYthing else is coed.

Newcomb was originally founded as a separate women’s college within Tulane, funded by Josephine Louise Newcomb in memory of her daughter Sophie. Nowadays, though, it’s mainly just a matter of where your paperwork goes. As said before, all classes have been co-ed since 1967, and most of the dorms are co-ed by floor. (Mine is co-ed by suite.)
