Singles: are there any negatives?

Are there any downsides to getting a single?

^ I’m only familar with the ones in hedrick summit with shared bath. But you have to slide your key card in 3 times to enter your room. That’s the only practical reason that I can think of now.

^ If you live in a relatively social suite, you only have to swipe once.

Downside is that if you’re a freshman, it’s harder to meet people on your floor. Walls also aren’t as soundproof as you’d imagine.

HAHAHA that’s right. 1 swipe to enter building + 1 swipe to call elevator + 3 swipes to pass “security” entrances… WHEW! what a chore to just get into your room…

Socialness (rather, the lack thereof). Unless a bunch of your friends get a single together.

You are quite isolated from the rest of the floor but if that’s something that doesn’t really bother you then living in the singles is amazing (of course take into account the extra cost). This is my 3rd year living in a single and I couldn’t be happier!

I really love my single. there are a few downsides, but I have no regrets.

downsides:

 • I live in Rieber Vista and there’s no wi-fi (except in the lounges)–when I lived in Sproul last year I had wi-fi
 • thin walls
 • feel very far away from your other floormates
 • view from the singles in Vista is sucky (all of them face Rieber)
 • so expensive!!
 • small, but this is pretty uniform with all living spaces near campus

I don’t notice any of these things most of the time though; I really think that the singles are fabulous.

Are there any singles that non-RA students can get in Sunset Village?

I currently live in a single in Hedrick Summit and I really don’t like it. I’m a freshman and I really wanted to meet a lot of people. I put single after double in my choices, but somehow I got it. I’m also on the first floor, which is only half the floor because we share it with the lobby so it kinda sucks. If you want to meet people you really have to get out and go to other floors or buildings.

The nice thing is you do have your own space and it really helps with studying and privacy and all that, which I guess i’m learning to really appreciate when I see people in the triples. Oh, and the walls are SUPER thin. People can hear every conversation or if you have somehow over so just be aware of that!
