Is now the time to talk about how I went to work not one but 2 days in a row with mismatched sneakers (new balance) on my feet?

My morning routine is I usually get up walk the dog, come back in the house and get dressed. Because the grass where I walk the dog is always wet, I don’t like messing up my “good” sneakers so I keep a couple of old pairs around. I just throw on a right foot and a left foot and go out. Lately I have been getting showered and dressed before walking the dog but my routine of just throwing on 2 sneakers was the same. In the back of my head I say go back up stairs and change your shoes. But i got caught up in doing other stuff around the house and it slipped my mind.

The first day, I realized about 10pm that I had been walking around all day in mismatched shoes. The second day, my fieldwork supervisor said, Syb, do you know you have on 2 different shoes? I explained to her what happened the previous day, she laughed and said, don’t you just love living in NYC because people on the train just think of this as normal. When I told my sister what happened she said, that’s the great thing about being over 40, as long as you have 2 shoes on, you really don’t care what color they are.

So raising a glass to NYC and best of all here’s to being over 40. So what, we can’t figure out how to fill out the fedex forms, we’re doing all we can to make sure we go out with matching shoes in the morning, and comfortable ones at that ;)

And when you get to be over 50??? Not only don’t you care, but *nobody else *cares. They’re not looking. :p

I am no longer a “junior”.

I am now officially a member.

Maybe I want to rephrase that :)

You are an example of perseverance, proof that anyone in this great country can reach the pinnacle with a little hard work and ingenuity. Congratulations, my friend.

Might be time to branch out to a new Dansko color. I like the red. My brown are more bronzeish. Definitely my favorite shoes. Also my black suede “snow clogs” that I wear on weekends once it starts to snow. I have way too many dress shoes that I don’t wear anymore since I don’t work in an office environment.

My leaving the house “shoes” in the front hall. Nike, Nike, custom designed Nike. Sort of like chanting “duck, duck…goose!”

m&s dad, I’m buying. And you don’t have to restrict yourself to the Shirley Temple/Roy Rogers side of the bar list anymore. Go wild!

WooHoo!! I’m legal!

What does it take to become a member?

Lots of free time :D

Thanks - seems to be some kind of minimum no. of postings.

I seem to have spent the weekend buying shoes. (none for my however). S came home from Pitt and I bought him new sneakers and work shoes. He is on co-op this term. For some strange reason, we couldn’t do both on one day or one trip. Lined younger S’s shoes up in the hall. He thought I was weird. Sent S back with new shoes, socks, and a jacket too big for my H. Feel as if I have outfitted him for the winter, or at least until Thanksgiving. Ready for a glass of wine and Sunday night football.

I need a tall one. Went to see a show today… On our way in I saw 2 “older” women-- one with an outfit similar to mine, and one with a hairstyle similar to mine  I feel ANCIENT! I finally come to grips with my age, the show starts, and what they burst into song about ?? (“Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”) FERRAGAMO’S

While I adore Ferragamos, I gave them up when I realized my walking/whatever habits chewed up the heels almost faster than I could get them repaired. Then I gave up heels for flats and haven’t had corns/foot problems since.

I gave up wearing heels years ago…at least platforms since the mid 70s.

Takes three hundred qualified posts to be a CC member. Sadly posts in the cafes do not count.

Massmom, what do you and your S think of Pitt? I can see the Cathedral of Learning from the third floor window of our house.

Sybbie you are not alone: I have very narrow feet so when I find a shoe I love that fits well, I often buy it in a few colors. Well, a few years back I went to work with 2 identical shoes, except for colored …one was navy blue, the other burgundy. I arrived after a 45 minute commute, walked into my office and then noticed my shoes as I looked down to pick up my key that I had just dropped. The look on my face and gasp must have caught a few people’s attention, but I quickly went to my car and put on sneakers I kept in the car trunk, just in case of emergency (earthquake kit
Anyway, the next day when I walked into the office everyone began to smile and giggle. It took until almost 10 am for me to notice that EVERYONE in the office (10 people) were wearing mismatched shoes! I laughed so hard I thought I would cry!!! And, yes, I was over 40 but the office clan were all in their 30’s!

That story shows how much your office loves you! Sweet!

I occasionally buy shoes b/c they’re “cute” but usually end up wearing daily the ones that are comfy. And when I shop for clothes, I think twice about what shoes I will be required to wear with an outfit. Unless I am REQUIRED to dress up (wedding etc.) I try not to wear fancy shoes. So I generally have happy feet!

I have always been this way, I must admit, only getting older means I don’t care anymore if I am stylish or not. ;)
