Got a chance to see the Capitol Steps last night. They poke fun at all the politicians and news and are great fun for an evening’s entertainment. I highly rec’d seeing them when they tour your cities. ;)

Blucroo - Have sent the Capitol Steps a few times. They are in Boston again in a few weeks. Will be interesting to see them after tommorrow’s election. M&S Dad - S is a junior engineering major at Pitt. Loves the city and the school. I wish he was closer. Pittsburgh is a ten to twelve hour drive or a $225 RT airfare. He is on co-op this semester and seems to like it. Learning the basics of working for a living. Still can’t manage to buy himself shoes or socks, however.

another shoe story (see what Alu’s Ferragamos started …)…just to bump…

DH took DS for out of town for sport competition (insane mad rush) arrived to discover he (the husband ) was wearing 2 left shoes (runners)…Daughter & I smugly rolled eyes and compared real life to the movie “Best In Show”…ha ha, it is a good excuse if you find yourself going around in circles…:)

I have been thinking about this. In my closet I have Ferragamos, Prada, Stuart Weinstein (is that the name???), Dolce and Gabbana, Nike, Cole Haan, Puma, Manolo Blahnik and some Spanish guy whose name I can’t remember. Also sheepskin slippers. Had some Haviana flip flops but gave them to a trendy teen.

When did this happen? I used to be all about comfort…Hmm. I think it is because I am 50 (see, bring it back to that every time) and still working in a world where it matters what my image is. Mootie, you are a tech gal. You can wear whatever you want as long as you are smart. Cheers, you are the boss AND creative, so again, leeway. Me, I’m sitting in the world (have to sit, shoes hurt) where my clothes are my branding statement and I have to make it every day.

Still wear my Pumas most often though, on those days where no customers are in sight.

LOVED the stories about the mismatched shoes… nice junior staff to be so supportive of our aging competencies.

Alu,

Now that you are 50, it may be time to let that Spanish guy out of the closet. Probably very cramped for him in there…

Stuart WEITZMAN!

Weitzman. Oh yeah. What a 50-year old dork I am. My closet is in CA and I am in Shanghai:). I didn’t bring my Stuart Weitzmans…

But don’t you like his shoes too?

Yep, I like em too.

I am not usually one to wear heels. My old feet just cant’ take it for very long. However, I have stumbled across some remarkably comfortable shoes, Joan & David <a href=“nextag.com domain name is for sale. Inquire now.”>nextag.com domain name is for sale. Inquire now., and bought 3 different pairs. Even better, I got them at Syms, for about 1/2 price!

As an aside, my late mom had very narrow (AAAA) feet. The only shoes that fit her comfortably were Ferragamos. Her closet looked like Imelda Marcos’, with shoes in multiple colors. When she passed away, I kept a few pr. for posterity. A few actually fit me. In fact, after this discussion, I decided to wear a pr. to the play on Sunday-- and then they started singing about Ferragamos’ in the song “What was a woman to do”.

Woo-hoo, I have just finished catching up on over a week’s worth of missed posts in Sinner’s Alley!! The stampeding herd of marmots nearly knocked the flaming pupu platter out of my…uh, elongated flexible unsegmented extensions.
I’m still snorting over audio’s joke, but, please…have some pupu!

While I was out, I saw Shaquille O’Neal hanging around the Hertz counter at the Las Vegas airport. At least, it was a 7’ 2" guy who looked exactly like Shaquille O’Neal. He owns a restaurant in Vegas, and I don’t suppose he drives his own personal vehicle around town. He probably has a limo and a female driver wearing a teeshirt that reads, TITTY POWER, across her bosom in silver glitter. But, maybe this time, he wanted his own set of wheels. Anyway, it looked like he and the short guy he was with were trying to reserve a car. There is no doubt about it…Shaq is cool. And, he looked like a very nice large man.

I sat in my chrome and vinyl chair fidgeting and waiting for them to bring me my convertible turbo PT Cruiser. I try not to linger in the Hertz lot at all. My Gold Service usually has my car waiting as soon as I step off the shuttle, but not this time. I made the fatal mistake of reserving a car from their Fun Collection.

Shaq was still trying to get his car when the guy behind the counter offered me a Hummer as a substitute. No, I don’t drive Hummers, I won’t ever drive a Hummer, and if I had principles, I would be morally opposed to Hummers. I drove carloads of kids around in a Taurus station wagon for eight years, and that’s as far as I’m going to go toward humiliating myself in a car. The fact that I was choosing to be seen in this latest version of the retiree special was bad enough. I shot spittle on the counter when I said this: NO, HUMMER.

But, we have the smaller one available, as if a diminutive model of this pretentious PITA vehicle would be acceptable. I didn’t feel like being flipped off all weekend by other drivers, either. And, why did he think this would work with me? I had a feeling that it had something to do with the fact that I was female, white, and the only thing missing was my cup of Starbucks, which ticked me off even more (see audio’s joke).

Anyway, I may have scared the guy because he said that he would get in his own car and drive around the lot looking for a PT Cruiser. Hmm, that was odd, but fine with me. I’m not sure where he finally found it, but he came back 10 minutes later driving a spiffy little white one with a black convertible top. Late October is the perfect time to drive a convertible in the desert, and even though I had to help my crazy-cat-guy, father-in-law wrangle cats all weekend, the car lived up to its “fun” category.

Woo-hoo, fun cars! Better late than never, we just got our “midlife crisis” red car. So what if it’s a small hatchback that gets great gas mileage…it’s red! And cute as the dickens. Honda Fit is the name, available in Europe as the Jazz, soon to be seen more of in this country, I’m sure.

I AM morally opposed to Hummers. More so after I read there is a shortage of them in Iraq, of all places. They should take them off the lots here, armour them, and put them to good use. Better yet, they should bring our troops home…but since this is not a political forum, I won’t go there. ;)

Not & Never Will Be!

But…

VOTE

Enough politics…who’s pouring? :)

Joan&David - I’m with you, jym. I think I had them on my personal shoe list in some post up above. I’m completely lost now as to the sub-segments in the Joan and David line, though. “Joan&David circa”? - what’s that compared to justplain Joan&David? I am s-o-o-o out of the fashion loop. My proudest shoe ownership is my Joan Halpern’s, which was at one time (when I was still in the fashion loop) the top of their line. My particular pair is not quite in style at the moment. But they’ll come back. I know they will. Ya gotta believe.

Buying a round for SA long timer JMMom, who has parlayed her time on College Confidential forum into a mentoring role for disadvantaged youth.

Look for her post, and raise glasses high!!! Nostrovia!!

jmmom-
I have no earthly idea about the difference between the joan & david vs joan & david circa-- but I have the circas. Maybe that’s “shoe speak” for “cheaper lower class model”. But I like em ![]()
Slugg- Was Shaq wearing Ferragamos?

Those are the only FUN cars in Vegas? Xhibit too busy to send a few over or what?

Sorry…forum problems.

man, I can’t believe this bar was closed on a evening when many might well have needed a large slurping of succour and commiseration, a specialty drink of the House,…

Actually, I thought this was the site of the Lieberman celebration/victory party last night
