Thats exactly what he did-- bought an external drive (couldnt get an internal one to work… weird). The install disks have counters in them-- the companies dont want you trying to install them on lots of different computers). I think we’ll probably keep the external drive, as we might need it for something else, and then hang onto the install key disks. I couldnt find 2 original test scoring disks, but I must have sounded so pitiful on the phone (by the 3rd call to get stuff reinstalled) that they ended up agreeing to courtesy send me a new one (they are on one disk as a pkg now) than to charge me the $250 to rebuy. That helps. However, I had to buy ther computer, disk drive and several softward upgrades. Not cheap, and at t his timeof yer, those chargecards are taking a real beating.

Super…except for the expense and trying nature of it.

Ensure your new computer is Microsoft Vista capable (I don’t recall you being a Mac user). Personally, were I to buy a new Windows computer, it’d be 64-bit with a minimum of 2 gigabytes of RAM. Having a DVD/CD burner is also helpful, if you need to archive large amounts of data, like videos or lots of photos.

Cheaper, but functional for maybe the next couple years or less would be an Intel Pentium 4, with 1GB RAM running Windows XP Service Pack 2.

For the purposes we need for that particular computer, we didnt need bells and whistles. Its a Windows XP system, vista compatible (but not the fancy hi end premium stuff). Anyway, this stuff is way too boring for our SA compadres. I am back in my office dealing with this stuff with hubby and my assistants. making slow progress…

Yes, definitely time to get the conversation back on track for SA denizens who don’t really know what Microsoft Vista-capable means. Or compatible. But are afraid maybe they need to know.

How 'bout them Demon Deacons? Trojans? Bruins? Scarlet Knights?

For those of us in the San Francisco area, could you translate, please? Does this mean we should stay indoors for the next unit of time? That would be a pity, really, it’s lovely weather today…

Back to making Grandma Storch’s Banana Nut Bread, anyone want some with their cosmos this afternoon?

This is the time of year when I go to Target to get a floor mop and have to avert my eyes so as not to see all the responsible people doing their Christmas shopping…Is it eggnog time yet?

Us Southerners would also feel more at home as visitors if you San Francisco residents would put some gun racks in your Volvos and hybrids. That’d be a nice touch. Maybe a shotgun or deer rifle, too? Nice!

Am I too late for the Banana Bread? Sounds like a lovely combination. Cosmos and banana bread.

So, because it is December, there are lots of performances, some of them have my kids in them so I have to go, some involve friends, and I want to go – so many things to do in Dec! Anyway, last night I went to my first Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir concert, partly because I’ve always wanted to hear them, and partly because a friend was singing. Wow, what a rockin’ choir! But you know what was really impressive was the audience – they were asked to sing Happy Birthday, and they sang it in harmony – and a couple of other things too, the whole audience just started singing in harmony-- it sounded beautiful! And this man (another guy that came to the concert to watch) on the way out was singing a Christmas song with an incredible voice as he and his wife walked to their car. Loved it. Downtown Oakland at its best! Yeah, baby, I’ve got the spirit now. Hope I don’t lose it by stressin’ out about shopping and, erk, cleaning the house.

It is pretty bad around here right now. My eight year old daughter loves to watch the show “Extreme Makeover.” And she said to me the other day, “I can’t wait until our house burns down, so the people from Extreme Makeover can come and redo it.” If only it was as easy as that. Oh well, worry about that later, got to go see another show . . .
