Shoot I should have borrowed a uniform!! ;)

LFWB, that is such a nice couterpoint to the ‘cranky Manhattanite’ stereotype!!

S just got back from a week in Tokyo–says NYC has nothing on people in Tokyo trying to get on the (always crowded) public transportation. He says they’ll run you over! :D

SBmom-
I believe that ever since 9-11, the “cranky Manhattanite” stereotype has been replaced by the “kinder-gentler” Manhattanite. In truth, having frown up just outside the City, I never really found Manhattanites “cranky” (except for the one !@##$$% who put his cigarette out on the hood of my brand new car as he was crossing at a traffic light in 1978!)

I’ve always thought there were two types of NYers - sometimes residing in the same body. You never know which one you are going to get the cranky abrupt one, or the one who will go out of their way to be helpful. Keep you on your toes!

Who says NYers aren’t friendly? I saw the Allman Brothers show at The Beacon last week and the guy in front of me offered me a hit off of his joint.

^^^^ LOL, audio!!
Mathmom,
I think the 2 personalities you describe can be true of almost anyone, anywhere. Never know when someone is having a bad hair day.

That’s because it was oregano…

Could have been, I didn’t want to find out.

I’m having a laugh…

<a href=“They Didn't Study | PDF”>They Didn't Study | PDF;

Can I belly up to the bar for a cyber drink (a nice glass of wine, please!)?

The family is leaving to look at schools on Sunday and I think I might not make it. Can you imagine taking two control freaks in a car for a week? One an engineer and one a future engineer. Please God, what was I thinking? Do you think that the girl can pick out schools from the internet?

Besides, planning college tours is about as complicated as planning a war! The FAFSA was a breeze compared to this.

slugg-- too funny; you have to applaud the creativity…should at least have given him partial credit for that!

deb- lol about the engineers; that would be my d’s dad (my ex). I love “engineer humor”!

I really think there is a great idea for a business in planning college tours…I looked all over the place for a canned “socal college tour itinerary”…I did actually find something on the internet, but it was a bit dated.

btw, d and I left her dad at home when we took our college trips…they were actually pretty fun, but definitely a logistical nightmare…enjoy!

deb922–want some Prozac with that? Sounds like you need a week’s supply. ;)

Yes but…

I spent a year driving around the country photographing fire stations. Two Yankee young women. We had by far the best treatment in the south where people seemed to feel almost aggressive about needing to display southern hospitality. There really are some regional stereotypes and also people feeling the need to live up to their regional stereotypes.

The funniest thing on this line happened in Israel. We went into the tourist office at Tel Aviv and asked if they had any recommendations about what to see in the area. The answer a brusque, “Take a tour.” We said, “Well we’ve rented a car…” to which we got “Then drive!” Uh okay. But I did feel like I was back in NY - on a bad day.
I actually liked Israelis just fine after that one lousy experience.

mathmon,

get over here and sit by me. We’re going to toss some back and toast mathson. Congrats and hats off to him!!! Hey, do ya think there is a possibility that we can hook him up with bhappy’s D?

then we’re going to toss some peanut shells across the bar at SBmom who really acted like she didn’t know us when she was in NY.

I hope you help be get my baskets back from Bethie who is on top of the table doing the happy dance. I tried to tell her that they are both yellow but she said close enough because we are on short supply of blue stuff.

moootie,

Decisions, decisions, decisions. We are gonna have to change his name because TSFH did his thing and we are not mad at him.

Sybbie, I just love the way you write! I wish I could be so amusing. :(

Drinks are on me - Mrs p2n and I are celebrating wedding anniversary number 27.
Got her a card, flowers, chocolate, superb supper and no pizza!

Cheers!

sj,

the most amusing thing that has happened this week is that our kids are back among their people.

She called from the airport to say she arrived in boston and I hear in the background, hey, hi, hi, yeah and then she tells me she will only talk to me until she sees her luggage because she does not want to miss the bus because she wants to catch up with her friends. The phone then abruptly clicks and she calls again about 11:30 pm to ask if one of her best friends can come on vacation with us when school is out.

Happy anniversary to the p2ns. I did not see you mention wine and candlelight in your post. remember our ambiance and mood lighting comes from all of the dust from the light bulbs because we are trying to get away from cleaning up after people.

berurah? You workin’ to day, hon?

Mathson deserves some jumpin’ coloured banners…

That’s not dust - it’s expensive “ambiance compound”, carefully applied!

:)

and I just dropped $200 on supper. The restaurant can clean up the wax.

Congrats and enjoy mathson and mathmom. We have champagne saved especially for such occasions…
