Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

I’ve used an iron and paper towels to get candle wax off carpet. I found this site that might help - the concensus is a hair dryer and paper towels or brown paper bags. If the hair dryer doesn’t work try an iron on low setting. <a href=“Cleaning Candle Wax from Wood Furniture | ThriftyFun”>Cleaning Candle Wax from Wood Furniture | ThriftyFun;

Good luck

hey, I knew there is something great about over30 (the age and the person). Great minds were thinking alike because I found the same tip for LTS.

Now, just because you no know how to get the candle wax out, pull up a seat and sit spell :)

Haha! Great story. I’m sure AluD was the talk of the family that evening!

My youngest is happy too–after a bumpy start. I called it bumpy. He called it ‘hellish’. Something to do with a girl, the one he left in the last GAP port.

In the evenings, he’s training at the National Olympic Center and absolutely loving it. He said the facilities are amazing.

Hey, in Sinner’s Alley if you burn the place down it always comes back the next morning:).

Rising like the Phoenix. Coming back like a bad penny or a relative looking for a place to stay…

Infinite virtual do-overs!

Whew - o.k., well, that reads like a LOT of work, but, at least there’s some solution available. Thanks! (Now I know how I’ll be spending my 4th of July…)

lts,
Let us know how this saga turns out! My piano tuner was here yesterday and said that after our house, he was going to a house where a woman had spilled a cup of coffee into her baby grand piano. When she called him up and asked him what to do, he said to her, “Add cream and sugar.”

LOL! I’m really mad at myself though. First, I cannot imagine how I could have been so absent minded as to fall asleep with candles burning, also, I really really like this desk a lot. I have two desks in my home office - one is for the “hard” work, the real stuff, and, this desk is for the “nicer” work, and it has a lot of my more important documents, etc., and there’s candle wax on everything, and, it’s this purplish/maroon colored stuff, and there’s business cards and paperwork and all sorts of stuff all glued together now…I’m sooooo annoyed, and can only imagine it’s going to take hours and hours to clean this up, and recover whatever documents I can, plus clean up the wood…

Oh well, at least nothing caught on fire, that’s the upside I guess…

Maybe I’m getting too old and befuddled to be trusted to live unassisted… :(

I think a hair dryer (or iron) would work on the papers too. They’ll still be purple, but at least you can get them apart. And that candle wax I spilled on the carpet? At my in-laws - I had to get it off!

Cheers, I must have missed something (or forgotten more likely). Is your son training for the Olympics?

Sybbie - great minds do think alike

Finally safe to come out from the world of D with driving permit. I have had a permanent tic for the past six weeks. All waking and dreaming hours are filled with visions of unsafe distances to parked cars and stationary bumpers approaching far too fast.

Great to have D hope, but looking forward to her leaving, with license hopefully.

LTS, last time I lit a candle I set our bathroom on fire, and I was awake the whole time. (Hair products are quite the fire excellerant.) Could have been worse: I could have set the whole house ablaze. Got it put out without calling the fire department, although it took a good two days of scrubbing to clean off att the smoke markings.

off to the drive in tonight with W, S, D, D’s boyfriend and D’s boyfriend’s mom. Happy and safe Fourth to all.

^^Talk about phoenix rising from the ashes… I was beginning to think the m in m&sdad meant “missing.” Happy and safe Fourth, indeed. Seems like several of our denizens should be on “watch” when it comes to anything related to sparks and fire :D.

m&sdad–I like how you misstyped “hope” instead of “home.” With a D learning to drive, that’s definitely a Freudian slip. :D

We are going to a 4th of July barbeque tomorrow. Guess what I’m bringing? White sangria! I’m starting to have a reputation…

But that pickled fruit is SO good!

Whew - it took like an hour, but, finally I got all the wax off, and even managed to rescue some papers, business cards, etc. And then, promptly went shopping and bought more candles!!! One of them is a oak scent - it’s really awesome in the office work space, and I’ll make sure to stay awake!

A recent house guest left us with 3 bottles of fairly good champagne. We aren’t big champagne drinkers. Any good ideas for something good to make with it. Someone has suggested bilini’s. Recipes?

Bellinis are soooo easy, just peach nectar & champagne, about 50/50. It can be hard to find peach nectar, try a gourmet market. There is a brand called “Looza” or you could try making your own by purreeing very ripe fresh peeled peaches.

There are also quite a few champagne cocktails and champagne punches… nothing I know first hand but I’ve had them at parties…

Mimosas with brunch?

Bubbly sangria!

Here’s a link to a good champagne punch http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/102798

Or, just make Royal Kirs, champagne with a splash of black currant liqueur.

Kir Royale

1 part creme de cassis
5 parts Champagne

Pour creme de cassis into a glass and gently pour champagne on top.

Serve with a twist of lemon.
Yumm!

We had peach sangria yesterday - I’m not sure of the exact recipe, but it had peach brandy, white wine, peach nectar and lots of fresh peaches.
