Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

uh…no.

thisdirtyoldman…I’m sure you’re telling everyone that you use that site for business. We’ll keep your interest in Chinese soft porn our little secret here in SA. I bet you steal your wife’s Victoria Secrets catalogs, too…

^ She wears stretch flannel, a polarfleece vest, a woolen night cap, socks, overlayed with a medium down comforter. Probably what most of the SA’ers wear. There is another photo piece on what son’s wear.

I really was looking for business news on how China added another straw to the rapidly collapsing US$. I’m realigning some of our retirement funds and thinking on how DS can maximize his Canadian earnings for a trip to India and then to Europe next spring. --Honest.

what do you know, DW, also calls me DOM, and that she is an OL.

I wear nightshirts that are cut like t-shirts but knee length that are emblazoned with “Victoria’s secret” in tiny metal rivets. In three colors: mint green, pink and black. Have two pink so am well stocked. Comfortable and can go to door in them in a pinch.

H, bless his heart, wears just boxers except when D is home. So empty nest has some compensations.

The kids where sleep pants and t-shirts and wake up fully dressed!

The attire in the picture is weird but compelling. I think we should put up a poster in SA. Let the guys drool. They’re stuck with us in here.

thisoldman - for now we are sort of benignly ignoring you. But for now.

I normally ignore me, myself. But if to get notice, I will push puttons. Made you look.

[Yuan value rises against dollar_Currencies—China Economic Net](http://en.ce.cn/subject/chinamarkets/mktcurrencies/200711/08/t20071108_13527572.shtml)
Canadian Loony is up against US George, 18% in just 15months.

In the Alley, you have only to ask. No acting out required.

It says so over the front door.

thisoldman: My DH just came back from a 3 day trip to Canada with the usual pocketful of change. My reaction this time was, “You should have brought MORE!” :D

Hmmm…Wonder what the rising Canadian dollar is doing to tuition that used to be so cheap, relative to American colleges?

I just found out DS#2 will be in town this weekend for a programming competition held at our local Uni. Tight schedule, but I’ll get to see him for a bit on Saturday! Yay!

D is in Canada this term and the worst about the rising loonie is that prices on items in Canada have not fallen yet to match that higher loonie- groceries have always seems expensive, but when one had a 35% USD discount, it worked out “fine” now, the discount is gone, there is a surcharge, but the price is still too high- higher than across the border. Despite the long border waits, many Canadians are coming to the US to buy things that have not yet been price adjusted at home to reflect the weak USD.

With only a modicum of embarassment, I am linking to a thread I started a few days ago-- did many of you see yourselves prominently quoted in this book?? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/413281-how-many-you-quoted-how-survive-college-book-series.htmlYay</a>!! we are famous! We are published! We are experts!

^ You haven’t had one too many already? Link not linking. I tinK.

Trying the link again, thisoldman http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/413281-how-many-you-quoted-how-survive-college-book-series.html</a>
“tanks” :)

(This link works fine-- not sure why the other doesn’t…)

Saving from the dreaded page 2…

I was at Borders today and enjoyed flipping through the book. Yep, some obvious CCer’s there!

catching up and pulling up my people from page 2. Nice to hear about the book, but if they really wanted to know how to survive college, they should have printed a chapter, the best of SA.

Yeah, that’s how those of us who have to pay for it survive.

Where’s a bottle of that $2 wine?

I’m at Princeton, spending two nights watching D dance. Ah. One of the joys of parenting…

I will have a glass of Chardonnay to share with my tall redheaded girl.

Enjoy, alu.!! I am buying a round for all my SA buds. S got first acceptance today so I know he won’t be living in the basement next year!!

Congrats jym! I’m raising my glass to your boy-free basement next year!

I’m in Philadelphia for a student journalism conference and I’ve had the best time today wandering around the city. Ran smack into a lively Ron Paul political rally that was a stone’s throw from Benjamin Franklin’s grave. The near convergence of the historic graveyard of Christ’s Church with the CNN satellite van was a little head spinning. This is a great city…love the energy and the people and the shopping and the history, etc…

Meanwhile, D has sent in one app for EA and has another due by the 15th, then the state schools by Nov. 30 and a last one by Jan. 1. She went to a college fair with a friend the other night and is discouraged about her chances of “getting in anywhere” now. I think she was intimidated by the parent of a junior who was quizzing the college rep from our top public university and the rep said about her son “he needs at least a 4.2 and no, he shouldn’t work part time…” Well D had no intention of applying to that university, but the intensity of the exchange was a little unnerving for her, I think. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the two EA schools will bring good news soon.

Good luck to all of you waiting.

alu: Love the image of your tall red haired girl. What kind of dance does she do?

jym: Jubilation. And thanks for the drink. That wine I was drinking was terrible. Vinegar.

Congratulations to jym and jymson! The pressure is off!

Alumother, it’s wonderful that you have a tall, red-headed dancer! I hope the performances go well.
