Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

Well rest assured she has other secrets. ;)

true dat…

Happy Post #9000 to SBmom! Isn’t this a repeat win for you?

TFSFH is at the gate waiting to board his cross-country plane, which is still showing an on-time take-off. It’s a direct flight and he only has a carry-on, so assuming it gets off the ground we’ll be looking at his new hairstyle in half a dozen hours from now, yay!!

mootmom, 1986 huh? Wow thats a long time ago. I’ve only been afflicting messageboards since around 1988. Scary thing: in those days I used my real name, phone number and address, and if you search in the right places those archives are still online.

No, I’ve never had a milestone number post! I stumbled into it!

:)

Hey sheed-
We only serve cyber drinks in here anyway-- your mom is safe. BTW are you old enough to cyber drink in here with us???

Sbmom-
Congrats on the milestone post! And heartwarming sentiment in there as well.

Mootie- In 1986 we were using a desktop my H built with less than a gig of memory (if my memory serves me correctly), booking travel on the sabre site. My how times have changed.

LOL. In 1984 my H sometimes brought a “luggable” computer home from work and plugged it into our telephone handset so he could dial into work. Pretty primitive. I remember because we took pix of him trying to work with our 1 year old D on his lap.

We might have been the last family on our block to get on the internet–about 1998! H could just bring a laptop home from work, and the kids didn’t really need them for schoolwork in those days. (To hear them tell it, we WERE the last family on the block…)

Poor 13-year-old S used to bike to the library so he could log on there in 1/2 hour increments. We finally took pity and got a home computer & DSL. He is now about to graduate with a degree in computer science (and a job) so I guess our backwardness didn’t hurt him any.

Is there an age limit on cyber drinking? Have they brought it down from 21?

Sheed30–absolutely not! Nice try. ;)

Bartender, a root beer for our friend.

On the rocks por favor?

:D

You can have all the rocks you want.

that’s good :D

what about a club soda?

Tucking into the Makers Mark as I dive into dessert making and then finish up with Project Runway. Any other Runway addicts in the Alley? No spoilers please!

baking is done – whew! everything turned out fine except the almond cake, which came out of the pan in big chunks, looking rather wet. DH worked it like a puzzle, then put enough powdered sugar on top so you can barely tell it’s a disaster. As he says – just taste it – it doesn’t matter how it looks! Double boiler worked okay, I think – it was lemon – what does “thicken” mean anyway?! DD is downstairs with highschool friends and DH and I are in stark disagreement about what constitutes appropriate behavior for freshmen home from school. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

In yet another move I may live to regret, I’ve decided to pull out my antique Metlox Mobile dinnerware for tomorrow’s meal. It was made the year I was born, and I have a vast collection of the stuff but have never yet used it for an actual meal, I’ve just collected the pieces in boxes in the closet. HOW DUMB IS THAT?! So, off I go to wash off dusty plates and bowls in the coolest mid-century modern pattern ever, and try to fill my time before it’s time to drive to the airport. A few hugs at home and a lemon drop and all’s right with the world!

(/me tries not to think about TFSFH with bangs, sigh…)

I’m watching America’s Next Top Model…they are in Shanghai:).

Hey mootie-
I looked up the metlox mobile pattern and I love it! How much do you have?

Happy Thanksgiving to all in SA! Here’s a Turkey-tini recipe to help you get through the day, whether it’s those exasperating relatives or a cooking overload. Enjoy!

2 oz cachaca (Leblon suggested)
1 oz Torani Pumpkin Spice syrup
1/4 oz Torani French Vanilla syrup
1/2 oz Frangelico
1 Tb pumpkin puree

Mix all together in an ice-filled shaker. Shake well and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with nutmeg and cinnamon.

patsmom–We’re fresh out of Frangelico and I’d have to improvise on the Pumpkin Spice syrup (they MAKE that?) but hey, I do have some cachaca! Courtesy of a brother-in-law who is married to a Brazilian. :)

We’re having 1)duck and 2)white meat turkey roll.

The fat content averages out, I hope…

mootie–ENJOY your dishes!

turducken anyone???
