Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

-1 oz vodka
-1 oz kahlua
-1/2 C milk
-1/2 C vanilla ice cream
-1 small slice birthday cake.

Blend! >>

Now we’re talking SBmom. Since Amanda has to eat everything through a squeeze bag with a tube (she can’t suck through a straw yet), we’ve been desparately blending up a storm. It’s amazing what you can whip up in the blender when you set your mind to it (although I must admit to being grateful a few times that the squeeze bags for thicker things are not clear so she can’t see what it all LOOKS like).

I promised her that I would stick to a liquid diet with her until she can eat soft foods. She’s lost 10 pounds, I’ve gained two pounds. Of course, my “liquid diet” includes alcoholic content in the milkshakes. LOL! :)

Carolyn:

Does Amanda like lassi? My Ss love them; makes a little change from milkshakes…
Before painkillers, people used brandy to dull pain. So she could have a legitimate excuse to put some into her liquid diet, without it being discussed in the “binge drinking” threads :)

Marite, well you have me there - what’s lassi? All I can think of is the dog. At this point, a little brandy might be a good thing, if I could figure out a way to make it pallitable.

Brandy only if she’s off narcotic pain meds!

Lassi is a yogurt-based drink served in Indian restaurants. You can have sweet lassi or mango lassi. It’s very nice. Best way to fight spice heat.
Audiophile is right about not mixing brandy and painkillers. (I was just joking, Amanda is about 16, right?)

I figured that, but you never know if teens are lurking here!

This is Sinner’s Alley, audiophile. We are reprobates who mix meds and alcohol with abandon. Then we place bets with bookiemom on who will pass out first. ;)

Blenderize 16 oz. plain lowfat yogurt, and 8 oz. mango pulp (Indian stores) or 1 fresh mango. Add sugar to taste. Yummmm.
(I guess this really belongs in the 25 Hot Summer Treats thread).

Chocoholic:

Thanks for the recipe. I can now save mucho moola by making lassi at home.:)

I usually get sweet lassi, without the mango but with rosewater (I think): care to share a recipe for that?

Teenagers, do not try this at home! We’re bad eggs and loco hombres, and we regularly get a freak on. Run, innocents! Run while you can before our bad assedness rubs off on you. We are role models for no man, woman, or child!

You are entering the realm of Captain Jack Sparrow and other rum guzzling scoundrels. Drink up me 'earties, and fetch me some pappadums and coconut chutney with that mango lassi! ;)

I love it!!

marite: allow me to raise the bar a bit on mango lassie. Mango Pulp is OK, but the best is Fresh Mangos…you first make a pulp from nice ripe mangos and then follow your receipes.

Now what are the best mangos? Mexican - kent mangos are the best. You can still get fresh from some Indian stores (After August no good). Florida mangos are OK, but they could be little tart.

Kent mango pulp or just the slices and you are in hog heaven !!! :)

Trust me, you will never eat from the can again.

Simba:

Thanks! I’ve actually never eaten canned mangoes, but I can’t imagine that they would taste as good as fresh ones. I pig out on mangoes when I go to Asia. I’ll seek out kent mangoes. It’s my kids who drink two lassis each every time we go out for Indian food.

Thanks for the lassi hint. I did a websearch and found several recipies for various versions, including the mango version. I just happen to have a bottle (not can) of mango slices sitting in my refrigerator and will give it a try tommorrow. Funny thing is we eat at an Indian restaurant from time to time and I don’t recall Lassi on the menu. Will pay closer attention next time!

As for the brandy…well, I’M not on narcotic pain meds, so a little won’t hurt. ;)

Yogurt. The drink of the profoundly evil…

Alumother: since you are in China try the chineese dried mangos.

Carolyn and Marite, you may want to try lassie with homemade yogurt. I will post the exact procedure later (unless achat or optimizerdad still lurk here). It is a very simple process. First boil the milk, let it cool, add some yogurt to start the fermentation, let it sit outside the refrigerator for a day or two and you have yourt.

I have PM’d crash; I hope we can all drop by this evening and knock back a few.

“Do not allow children to mix drinks. It is unseemly and they use too much vermouth.” ~Steve Allen

Crash’s return calls for mudslides. It’s health food, because of the cookie. :)

Mudslide

1 oz. each of: Kahlua, Vodka, Baileys
2 Scoops Ice cream
Oreo Cookie

Break up cookie and blend ingreds well. Serve in a large, decorative glass. Garnish with whipped cream.
