Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

Sounds like a good way to ruin coffee. MHO.

I’d stick with coffee or chocolate flavors. Or brandy. Or rum. Or even anisette. :)

Oooh, I tried eggnog for the first time today. And it didn’t even have rum; just the Starbucks latte/eggnog. Jeepers it was good.

^^^ LOL p3t!!
L’chaim!

(I liked your first post-- the above looks a little different. The first one made me truly laugh out loud!)

I was at a brunch where the hostess had eggnog as an option instead of milk for your coffee. Most excellent!

Love Love LOVE eggnog. Probably because it was one of the few sweet things my mother would actually buy us, since it only came along seasonally and she wouldn’t have to hear us whining for more the other 11 months of the year.

When I lived in France I was so homesick for eggnog I went to WH Smith and got an English language cookboook…it was actually British… with a recipe for eggnog. (Something in the recipe-- maybe nutmeg?-- had to be obtained from Fauchon. While at Fauchon I also got Rice Krispies and Peanut Butter. But I digress.) The other items I got at my neighborhood corner market. As usual the very friendly proprietors asked me all about what I was buying and what I was going to make. (Our ritual, to teach me better French.) I will never forget their faces as I explained it was a “boisson de Noel” made from raw eggs, heavy cream, whiskey, vanilla, sugar, etc. They looked SO horrified.

Then I went home and made it, struggling a bit with a recipe that had measurements in grams and liters-- but knowing the gist of it was: sweet, rich, and boozy. Liberally laced with whiskey, it was excellent. I ran back down and gave some to the shopkeepers and though they looked a bit green at the idea of sampling it, once they had some they LOVED it. :)

When I was growing up, my mother wouldn’t let us kids have eggnog straight from the carton–she had to dilute it with milk because it was so rich. Even so, it was way better than plain ol’ milk!

I seem to remember my parents diluting theirs with whisky…

SBmom: A real man knows how to cry!

I was SO glad when Lactaid egg nog came out…

I remember my parents spiked their egg nog, too. I had a serious thing for Mom’s bourbon balls…I was six. Had no idea they had booze in them, but I would sneak them every chance I got. She quit making them after that…

OK, we just got a “Save the Date” postcard for the wedding of two people I swear I have never seen or heard of before. I hope one of them is a business associate of DH. The alternative is to think I am getting senile, and it’s way too early for that!

mommusic,
remember to check back in with us to let us know who the “mystery” couple is. I’m betting that senility is not yet in the works for you, but rather the couple is on the DH side.

Yup, mystery solved. DH work associate. :)

Bumping from Page 3. Bump and good morning everyone:)

Time for some morning drinks. Mimosas?

I saw a mention of the best thing for champagne–hibiscus flowers packed in a light syrup. The flower sits at the bottom of the tulip glass, bathed in bubbles; the syrup turns the champagne slightly pink and fragrant, and at the end you can eat the flower! Doesn’t that sound lovely?

delicious. Perfect for me and D while we wait for the airline to send her bags!! :P

I love the idea of the flowers. Like that tea you can get from China where a flower blooms in the tea…

We do have tea in the Alley, don’t we?

Other than Long Island Iced Tea?

Of course we have tea. From Lipton’s tea bags to finest smoked Lapsang Souchong. And green tea. None of that white tea, however…it’s just too high class for us. ;)

For coffee there’s my favorite–1/2 coffee, 1/2 milk, a lump of sugar and some freshly chopped cardamom. Or coffee liquor, if you prefer, or heck…dump some whiskey in and be done with it. In that case, forget the milk. :)

mommusic, that sounds ideal so long as I could hold the coffee.

Sounds like someone is having baggage trouble.

My H just called–he got bumped from his flight and is catching the next one. Which is why he tries to never be on the LAST flight from anywhere, esp. on a weekend.

:) ten char
