Enjoying a week on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail with DS/DIL in celebration of her graduation and our joint love of bourbon.
Ratings so far:
Best overall: Four Roses (best merch, complimentary tasting glasses, best tasting selection)
Best grounds (and bathrooms): Maker’s Mark, truly a gorgeous place. Would return just for the beauty of the property. One of the rickhouse passageway ceilings was decorated with Chihuly glass:
Most surprising: Whiskey Thief, a new player not on our itinerary but locals told us it’s a must. They were right.
Most like Disney: Buffalo Trace. They have it down.
Most underwhelming: Tie between Heaven Hill and Wild Turkey, although we did get to meet 90+ year-old Jimmy Russell, creator of Russell’s reserve.
Best bourbon (to my palate): Four Roses Small Batch, Woodford Reserve Double-Oaked, Basil Hayden.
Tomorrow is Willet and Angel’s Envy (my favorite).
