Corona NA with a lime? At the very least it might prevent scurvy.
Unfortunately they don’t sell in my state.
Wow. The wind died down, the sky turned dark, and it’s pouring here in the desert. Time for an artic martini while we watch the palms sway and the rain skitter across the roofs. I’ll worry about washing my windows (again) later. A twist and two olives, please.
So excited! We’re celebrating our son’s and DIL’s May graduations with a driving trip down The Kentucky Bourbon Trail (between Lexington and Louisville) staying at a couple of historic hotels, with tours/tastings at:
Four Roses
Wild Turkey
Makers Mark
Woodford Reserve
Oscar Getz Museum of Whiskey History
Heaven Hill
James Beam
Buffalo Trace
Willett
Angel’s Envy
It will be the first trip with our son since we went to Disneyland for his sixth BD, and he says this beats Disney hands down. We raised him right.
When you want the world’s best Bourbon experience, you go to Kentucky. It’s that’s simple. Welcome to Bourbon’s birthplace. The trip you’ve had in the back of your mind since the first time you raised a glass. Discover the flavors, the craftsmanship, and our legendary hospitality.
Cheers!
After a Red Sox win we hit a couple of our usual haunts for celebratory signature cocktails.
Eastern Standard’s Whiskey Smash.
The Capital Grille’s Stoli Doli.
That looks delicious, @cinnamon1212.
My watch has never awarded me glasses of wine! Lucky!
Mine just gives me a, “relax reminder” ![]()
Not my watch, alas!
This must’ve been someone’s marathon run (judging by the time and calorie burn). When I ran marathons, watches have not been that smart yet! But a beer after a long run is heavenly even though I am not a beer drinker. Red wine- not so much, lol.
Have a wonderful visit!
I’m in Ireland for the week on a work incentive trip that is top notch. The weather has been uncharacteristically beautiful for this time of year. This was my view after finishing up a round of golf at Doonbeg. A group of us sat outside next to the 18th green looking out at the ocean while enjoying several pints. This resort is truly special.
A friend of DH just moved to Lexington. This is on our radar!
Enjoying a week on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail with DS/DIL in celebration of her graduation and our joint love of bourbon.![]()
Ratings so far:
Best overall: Four Roses (best merch, complimentary tasting glasses, best tasting selection)
Best grounds (and bathrooms): Maker’s Mark, truly a gorgeous place. Would return just for the beauty of the property. One of the rickhouse passageway ceilings was decorated with Chihuly glass:
Most surprising: Whiskey Thief, a new player not on our itinerary but locals told us it’s a must. They were right.
Most like Disney: Buffalo Trace. They have it down.
Most underwhelming: Tie between Heaven Hill and Wild Turkey, although we did get to meet 90+ year-old Jimmy Russell, creator of Russell’s reserve.
Best bourbon (to my palate): Four Roses Small Batch, Woodford Reserve Double-Oaked, Basil Hayden.
Tomorrow is Willet and Angel’s Envy (my favorite).
Butchertown Grocery Bakery (it’s not a grocery, just a small cafe) is down the street if you want a cup of coffee and a pastry or breakfast sandwich at 743 E Main St
