OK, I admit it. I do watch this show once in awhile. One thing I really don’t understand is the economics of this family. The husband drives a sporty little Lexus, and seems to have all the time in the world to devote to his family of 18 although he does refer to his employment once in awhile. One of his wives does have some sort of job, but how on earth can they support 18? Now they’ve fled to Vegas to get away from the authorities in Utah and are going to happily set up camp there. No reference to his leaving his job, down payments on a house or whatever. Call me crazy but it does pique my curiousity!

I wonder the same thing. Maybe the tv show is lucrative?

I wonder too. Sixteen kids and the two adults who work quit their jobs? And the one wife who works doesn’t like being home.

Well- not sure where the $ comes from…but I did see Mr Polygamist and wife 2 or 3 (clearly I don’t watch much) in line for The Pirates of The Caribbean at Disneyland a few months ago!
Yes, we were not stalking, but naturally saw him in line at The Haunted Mansion right after that…and FYI lots of PDA going on. Like they were making up for lost time!
My DD texted her entire sorority during the sighting–as this show is their guilty pleasure.
I suppose the show will stay on for a while if he is getting paid enough and viewers are watching enough!

Lots of speculation that the wive are on public assistance…not sure if it is true though.

During the Jon and Kate debacle, it was brought up that TLC pays about $5,000 *per episode/i. If they’re being smart and saving, they should be set for a while.

I read somewhere that they make $ 20,000 per episode! sure, they are set for a while! 4 episodes by month = $ 80,000! x 12 =960,000/year! With that amount it’s very possible to feed 18 kids and 5 adults and live in spacious homes!

But they don’t make thT many episodes a year, Ginger. Do they even do twenty episodes a year? It could still be a lot of money, but probably not 960k.

I heard from a friend who has a boat load of relatives in Utah; that the Browns are being financially supported by their FLDS- polygamist sect. They were supposedly, asked to go public as a polygamist family, hoping to change the negative perception of polygamy.

Now each wife has her own house in Las Vegas. Was just loving it as they said they were just fine in their own house, on their own, and it didn’t seem to matter to them if they saw the husband at all. He looked flabbergasted. What, they are not missing him! And now he and the pretty new one are pregnant. Going to be an interesting season.

the last one is skinny but not at all pretty…and they are all playing the "reality TV " game!

^^^Yea, ginger! Glad to know there are people out there who don’t equate being skinny with being pretty. I guess I say she’s pretty because she usually has make up on. The other wives look like worn out housewives. Of course they do, they have to take care of all those houses and all those children! As for the Disneyland sighting, I don’t know if I’d be able to control myself. I would have to go up to that guy and give him a piece of my mind! Right after I bring him to the vet to get fixed!

This probably sounds sort of mean, but they seem (especially him) sort of half witted. Everything’s hardy har har but I’m thinking, “where are those kids’ college funds? How do they pay medical insurance for 18?” etc. I’d be frantic and all he does is joke about his fertility!

I was thinking the same thing, dke. I have a middle-school aged son who takes up a staggering amount of my time with things like riding herd on homework (I know he should be able to be organized himself, but he’s not there yet) and taking him to lessons and sporting events. How in the name of heaven do they supervise homework and arrange schedules for that many kids? How does the dad do dad things with that many kids? It’s not like a family with one mom in one house where that woman’s ways of doing things are the rule for everyone, that’s four different women’s ways of doing things.

Funny you mention middle school. The little I have seen of him makes me think of 7th grade boys. Probably an undue insult to the youngsters, though!

Oh, the school issue. I’m probably getting too involved with these people, but the “legal” first wife blessedly only has one chiild by this idiot. Her daughter was in a wonderful school that she was forced to leave to flee to Las Vegas. Now that wife is on the other side of the community from the three “harem” wives, and she is perfectly content. I feel so bad for the oldest daughter, as she was probably the one with the best opportunity at a decent education.

As for providing for the 18, I think that’s the whole point of the Sister Wives. They use a group effort to get the kids to whatever they need to. I don’t know that they need organized sports, though. They have their own basketball, football, baseball, soccer team in house.

I have taken to watching the Duggars, another brood of children, that only has one wife. The poor teenage girls and daughter in laws, as well as neighbors and church members, contribute to the raising of this family. It is truly the embodiment of “It takes a village”, with the Duggars being the ruling tribe of the community.

I also wonder about education with that family. A recent episode featured the Dad preparing the older sons to take over a family business. It reminded me very much of my home state of Louisiana, where education is the lowest priority, as many families just pass the family’s business down from generation to generation.

In short, I don’t think these families care a wit about education and how it will be paid for. I think they are self sufficient in their own community and do not ever intend to live in the “Real World”.

Did anyone watch last night? I am feeling sorry for a couple of the wives. Back in Utah, they had to endure Cody, but they had the benefit of the sister wives in raising the kids, etc. Now they are in their own houses. I esp feel sorry for Meri. She seems like a really good person, but she was raised in a poligamist household and believes it is the right thing to do.

My younger D (15) keeps saying “Cody is a pig.”

^^ I agree with your D. Kody is a pig.

I feel sorry for Janelle. She seems to be the only one who is concerned about the familys financial situation. She and Kody were the primary breadwinners and both are without jobs now.

Although, according to my go-to-person on all things Mormon many in the Fundamentalist Mormon community are financially supporting the family. Would love to know what TLC is paying them.

This guy is such a BS artist it’s not funny! I loved it when they took on the last wife & they were all saying “Kody wasn’t even looking for another wife, we don’t know why he picked her”…??? maybe because she’s significantly younger & more attractive than the other 2??? These women really need some reality therapy, Kody has them brainwashed!!

I watched last night.Just loved when he declared that he was “open minded” right after his mind snapped shut.
