Situation - perhaps simple answer.

Relative is applying to colleges

Student’s father, who is a violent sex offender, is incarcerated but nearing the end of a long prison sentence.

Parental rights were terminated, no contact for many many years.

Single mom has not remarried and makes very little

Outstanding student most likely qualifies for great financial aid from top privates.

What documentation does student need to prepare for financial aid forms in order to not have to approach the father.

Were the parental rights terminated by court order? I think that would be document #1.

If the student is only applying to FAFSA schools, nothing needs to be done; father’s info will not be requested. If the student is applying to Profile schools that request the NCP or to schools that have their own forms for NCP, the student can talk to the school to find out what they need in order to request a waiver. I can’t imagine there will be any issues with waivers once the termination of parental rights is substantiated.

Parental obligations end when parental rights end.
