SIU-Carbondale Life

What’s Life at Southern Illinois U. - Carbondale like? How are the basic courses there, are they easy?

Typical third tier party school in the middle of nowhere. The whole town is about the Salukis as you will see everyone wearing the garb. Not a bad little party spot if I do say so myself. No idea about the courses though.

What about Northern Illinois University? A family friend who is the CFO of a fortune 100 company you have heard of, speaks very highly of Northern’s accounting program. He is a CPA and has an MBA from the University of Chicago by the way.

i heard about SIUC that people who party a lot are still able to manage their work load. the courses must be pretty easy then right? im a comp. eng major

I’ll be a freshman at SIUC this year as well, majoring in Political Science. I live about 40 min. away from school so I can tell you this much, while it is known as a party school (and rightly so) there’s still other stuff to do around campus and around town. And whenever you get time, head down to Makanda and check it out too. It’s a little village a few miles south of Carbondale and there are some really cool shops there like the Makanda Trading Company.

NIU does have really good accounting

Finally, someone who goes to a third tier school besides me(I’ll be going to NIU this fall)! SIU-Carbondale has a good basketball program from what I remember(they were in the NCAA tourney a couple of years ago). Also, I heard that their aviation program is rather good.
