Size of Beds

Are the Book store sheets the only ones that really fit or will any Twin XL sheet fit? The mailing from the book store makes it sound as if the beds at Rutgers are a unique size and their sheets are the only ones that will fit (or maybe they are just trying to make money).

You can find Twin XL sheet anywhere they sell dorm bedding. Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, Amazon or Overstock online

There is nothing special about the bed. No different than any other dorm beds in the country. It’s a business :)

Thanks again MushaboomBlue.

I actually found them at Macy’s but the repeated mailings from the campus bookstore had me worried.

Also wondering when do you buy your books? Do you get them online before the semester or wait until classes start? I would imagine the campus bookstore is crazy the first week . Did you ever have a problem with getting books?

I don’t mind someone trying to do business but when they say “Your sheets might not fit!” (bedding package) or “We want 100% participation!!” (for snack boxes) I start to get annoyed. I’m not buying either one.

Some people get them before the semester starts. But then there are many that wait til their first class to see what is needed and will go right after class to the book store to purchase it (like me!)

Last semester, I actually purchased my books online earlier since I figured out how to find the required books listed :)

I never had a problem with getting books. I prefer NJ Books over The Rutgers Bookstore. NJ Book just re-opened in a new and bigger location on Easton Avenue, so crowded lines are not a big problem anymore. Plus I find their prices a bit cheaper. You can purchase them on NJ Books online and pick it up in the store. They’ll have it prepared for you.

Thank you for all the advice you have been giving, MBB. How do you find out what books you need in advance?

I don’t know if incoming Freshmen can access webreg online yet, but:

(1) GO to this link –> https://sims.rutgers.edu/webreg/</a>
(2) On the left, click where it says “WebReg Login for Rutgers Students”
(3) Choose “Fall 2010” and then click continue
(4) You should see a page that lists your courses under REGISTERED COURSES; Scroll down to the bottom where you will see links to “New Brunswick - Ferran Mall, Camden bookstore …”
(5) Click New Brunswick- Ferren Mall and you should be taken to the page for Rutgers Bookstore; The page should say “YOUR CUSTOMIZED TEXTBOOK LIST”.
(6) Focus on the ones that say “REQUIRED” because a majority of the time, those “RECOMMENDED” items are never needed. They also show you the price so can compare it with online used books and with NJ Books’ price.

Using NJ Books:
You can also access which books you need through NJ Books. You’ll have to give the subject number:course number:section, which looks like this **000:000:00/B

Unfortunately, I see that they are not allowing people to order or search for books yet on the NJ Book site. But maybe you’ll be able to access Rutgers Bookstore once your schedule becomes available so you can have a list of your books. Continuing students who already prepared their schedule might be able to access Rutgers Bookstore site and see their list. I already see the required books I need for the fall.

Ok thanks for that; can’t log in yet as a freshman.

half.com for books.

not njbooks or rutgers.

Hmmm…strangely I didn’t find half.com so reliable for my books last semester. The prices were higher. The books I needed were cheaper at NJbooks. The only site I used was Valore books online. But that’s just me.

I only suggested NJBooks because I think it is one of the better bookstores on campus. Of course, one is welcome to compare prices with NJBooks and other places, be it online.

I can’t recommend Rutgers bookstore simply because their prices are a bit too ridiculous. The only time I use Rutgers Bookstore is to find a book list for the upcoming semester.

When can you order online from NJ Books?

^ Good question, haha  I’m not too sure, but it should become available by the end of the month before classes start on Sept. 1st. Apparently I can’t access it either and I already know what books I need.

When you order it online, you can go to the store and pick it up in person. It saves time so you don’t have to give the kids working behind the counter a list of 10+ books to search for.

Well Freshman won’t get their schedules until August 20th anyway, so they can’t order yet anyway.

Another alternative to sites like amazon.com is uloop.com. Join the Rutgers network, and you’ll see listings by students who want to sell their books. You can usually find a few good prices. These are usually pretty cheap too. If you have plenty of time to get the book, there are also sometimes links to the same book on sites like Amazon or half.com at an even cheaper price.

If you sign up for a student account at [Amazon Student](http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info) you get free Amazon prime for one year (usually $79) just don’t forget to cancel before the year is up.

when i went for summer orientation, i took a normal win sheet and it fit perfectly. RU book store isnt the only place for things. plus its kinda expensive. try somewhere cheaper.
