could anyone tell me how large is a typical desk at Carnegie Mellon. I have two types of notebooks: 1926 (cm) and 20 30, will my larger notebook fit in with the desks in the classroom and dorms? thanks.

The dorm desks are pretty large. you shouldn’t have a problem fitting a laptop on it.

Classroom deskspace is also plenty too. You shouldn’t have to worry about your notebook being too big.

lecture hall desks are sometimes quite small but I’ve seen people use 17 inch laptops on them…not sure how much fun that was though

shouldn’t be a problem at all really if you have a 15.4 inch screen or smaller

I don’t get why people use laptops in class… It’s only a distraction.

I think it’s easier to take notes on, especially when your professor talks really fast. It’s also easier to read the notes afterwards too.

Sometimes in CS, people are half-listening while doing a programming assignment for the class they’re sitting in.

for biology classes, it’s really helpful to be able to google a diagram and type notes under it rather than attempting to draw it in handwritten notes and label everything. and it’s a big plus when it comes to organization and studying for finals - typed notes end up much neater :)
