Size of School

How big of an effect does the size of a school (<15000 compared to >15000) have on an anthropology major?

It’s better to check on the school’s faculty-to-student ratio than the school’s total student population. Many large schools have low ratio of faculty-to-student, and there are small schools with high ratio of faculty-to-student ratio.

Very very small effect in my opinion. Agree with RML that student-faculty ratio is more important, as is wealth, percent of faculty who are full-time, availability of field experience, and quality of support departments.

I agree, you need to look at the specific department and what opportunities they have for undergraduates. If you talk to admissions, they will often give you a contact in the department. In a large university, you will need to get a clear answer on what opportunities are available for undergrads versus grad students and how many (if any) classes are taught by professors (as opposed to TAs). In a small LAC there are typically no grad students or TAs. I’d also suggest visiting some schools – you may find you feel more comfortable overall in a larger or smaller school and that may factor into your final decision.
