Sketchy Scholarships

Hi all,

I’ve been checking out online scholarships for rising college freshmen through fastweb.com. A lot of them seem sketchy to me, and being new to this whole scholarship thing, I was wondering if other people felt the same way too. Do you still register for all of these websites, take the free surveys to get points, etc? Do you know of better ways to get more “solid” scholarships? Please let me know!

Yes sketchy. They just buy and sell mailing lists. Easier to google your state, city, then county + scholarship.malso Google local charity organizations with same keywords. Plus whatever face or culture you come from. Found tons that way on their own websites.

Race not face

The best scholarships come from the colleges or universities themselves. Those are often renewable for 4 years. Next best are local scholarships. These are typically one year awards. Your school guidance office may have a list of local organizations that offer scholarships. If they don’t, see if some other schools have these listed on their web sites, look to see if there might be a state or county web site listing opportunities, or just start googling. Organizations that often offer local scholarships include Knights of Columbus, Junior League, Kiwanis, Veteran’s organizations, church groups, women’s groups, Chamber of commerce, and so on. Good luck!
