skidmore college and trinity college .

i am an indian student with 76 % in class 12th from cbsce board. i want financial aid too. i got 1500 on sat test. can i get in skidmore and trinity college. i am state level basketball player and have worked for national level newspaper.

The only way to find out for sure is to apply.

Most people on this forum are familiar with US grading systems, and may not understand what an Indian “76%” represents after conversion to a 4.0 unweighted scale. In a typical American school system, that percentage might correspond to a C or C+, or a 2.0-2.3 unweighted GPA. GPAs for students entering selective private LACs typically are between 3.5 and 3.9 unweighted.

so , what should i do know ?

If you need a full ride, you need to find colleges that will meet your need. It won’t do you any good to get accepted to a college if you can’t afford to attend.

Get some help converting your percentage to a US GPA on a 4.0 unweighted scale.
That will help determine where you might stack up against other applicants, and what kinds of colleges are realistic. As you identify some of those schools, you also need to consider net costs. Try using the online net price calculators (although they may not be as accurate for internationals as they are for US citizens in some cases).

Only about 60 colleges claim to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need even for US citizens.
Most of them are very selective, with high sticker prices (~$70K/year).
Almost all of them are need-aware in international student admissions.

With a 1500 SAT CR+M, if your GPA is at least equivalent to 3.5UW (or so), you may have a realistic shot at schools like Trinity and Skidmore. Those schools do seem to offer relatively generous financial aid to the international students they admit.

i googled ways to convert percentage into gpa and got that 76% is equivalent to 2.8 gpa , which is quite low. i am planing to retake sat and score atleast 1580 this time . can you suggest me anything else that can help me to increase my chance of getting admission .

please also tell me universities that claim to meet 100% demonstrated financial aid.

You contact the coaches at Skidmore and Trinity with your academic and athletic stats. Preferably with a video attached.
Ask politely whether they might be looking for a player such as yourself.

  • Say "CBSE 76%, which is top 10%" - not just 76%,which without context would be problematic.

If you are in the top 10% of your class, then your GPA will be interpreted favorably by most colleges, irrespective of its conversion on a 4.0 scale.

It’s like a 3.7 or even 3.8. Which stream?

That’s what I’m seeing, too. 3.7-3.8, not 2.8.
It might be best to involve, if possible, a local/regional Guidance Counsellor (or others who really know what they are doing in interpreting grades for your school or system.)

To answer the OP’s thread title, these are two very different schools. True, you’ll find all types at any college, but Skidmore’s rep is artsy and progressive. Trinity is more balanced and is also something of a wealthy family magnet (Trinity is in the top ten for having more students from the top 1% than the lower 60% in terms of family income).

Skidmore is a former women’s college, and it has a very modern campus (architecturally), which can turn off some who are looking for old buildings and a traditional college campus look (though it is outdoorsy and tree-laden). Trinity’s campus is much more traditional.

To add to @Hapworth, Skidmore is in a quite lovely town; Trinity is in a not great area of Hartford (beautiful campus though). Just something to think about if/when you need to make a decision. Trinity also has a rep for drugs/alcohol issues.
