Skipping Calculus AB [HS math progression: IM1 -> IM2H -> IM3H -> AB -> BC]

You forget it may have been 7am on the East coast
Anyway
you *can’t * “skip” Calc AB. It would be a recipe for disaster. You’d be missing all the essential theorems&concepts needed for BC.
So, your choices are

  • take Calc AB ← what we’ve all told you to do
    Or
  • take the accelerated sequence online

The consequences are likely more dire if you choose the latter and you’ll have to be ready to own the decision.
The former has no downside except to an image in your head that seems more precious to you than a reasonable choice.

I’d take the calc ab, it is less risky.

Okay, I know that this is kind of unrelated, but I am scared that I will screw up in the college admissions process because I didn’t take any ap or honors classes in 9th grade, so in freshmen year I transferred to three different schools in two different districts, and I had some trouble choosing my classes because of this.

Would I be a disadvantage to other applicants in my school, I mean my previous school placed grades based on tentative placement and I was given all the basic classes, actually even people with straight A+'s in my middle school were given the same classes as me also. I went to a charter middle school so that might have been the reason, my middle school didn’t have any English of science honors the only honors class was math.

So basically, once I switched, they changed my schedule again as some district policies were different for example in my prior school, I could take history in 9th grade while in this school it is in 10th grade. They just looked at my previous classes I was taking at the other school when they gave me the classes.

I stayed in this school for the first semester and the first three weeks of the second semester, I then transferred to another school, and they said I came much too late for the class changes to be in effect.

I also had to kind of fight with the school as they weren’t transferring my grades.

So basically, I moved houses, and this moved me from one school to another and the school that was assigned to me at my new house was full, so I had to go to another school which had space in the meantime, I went to this school for 1 semester and three weeks of the second trimester, and finally I transferred to my third school, which is the school I am assigned to.

Your record is your record.

Schools will view it as they view your record. All will see so differently.

This is not something you can control. Maybe it will impact at some, maybe not. There is no way to know.

If you have the required amount of classes (English, Match, Science, Social Science, Foreign Language) and others your HS or college requires - such as a fine art - you will find many many schools excited to have you.

Do your best - and look at the long term.

There is no reason to panic.

Kids transfer and go to college.

You’ll be ok.

Work with the guidance counselor at your current school to ensure you have the classes most colleges require.

Good luck.

Thank you,

I meant this as in other aspects like class rank and admissions

So basically at my old school everyone was taking the same classes as me
While in my new school people are taking more advanced classes which puts me behind.
I am currently in the top 6 percent of my class.

How far behind can you be if you’re in the top 6%.

Many schools don’t use rank, btw.

Again - your record is your record. You want to ensure that you’ve take the right classes - to get four years of English, math (we know you are good here), lab science (at least two, preferably 3+), social science (3+) and foreign language (preferably 3+).

You are putting yourself into a panic over nothing.

There are thousands of colleges in the US - and you will find many great ones.

Focus on being a kid and less on panic.

Go see your counselor to ensure you are taking the right classes that colleges require.

Okay,

Thank you so much again

Hello, by saying this you mean for UC applications right?
I mean I do miss out on some uc honors points because of this.
