Skipping Foreign Language

I’m currently a sophomore in high school taking Latin II. My Latin teacher feels that I am not being challenged and I’m moving at a faster pace than my classmates. He told me he would like for me to stay after school some days with him, and move ahead. This would allow me to take Latin 4 next year, and would make me eligible for AP Latin my senior year. I’m thinking this would be to my benefit, because I was planning on taking the Latin Ap exam and SAT already.

My question to you is, how do colleges look at people who skip a year of foreign language? Could I make it clear on my application that I self-studied a course?

I think it would actually help you if you skipped from Latin II to Latin IV.

By looking at your transcript, they can see you skipped a year. You might mention in an essay (if relevant) that you self-studied a course, or in the ‘additional info’ section of the app.

they’ll definitely see it on your transcript. As kyledavid suggests, if you are a classics geek or somesuch, then Latin could be a good essay topic.

My friend skipped spanish III. I guess it was a tough transition, but she got used to it.
