Skunk Works

How hard is it to get a job as an ae or me at a place like Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works? Just curious.

Generally, it is quite difficult, but it also depends if you are talking about getting a design position, or just a regular run-of-the-mill engineering job (such as being a CAD monkey or something).

Most design programs are run under IRAD funding, which is generally only year to year. Therefore, the design teams are highly integrated and require highly talented and experienced engineers. Most/many have PhDs, and a graduate degree is almost required. Even the regular IRAD departments (outside of Skunkworks) in most companies utilize the most experienced 'authorities' in their field within the design teams.

Again, I am making the assumption that you are asking because you want to be part of the design team, and not someone who wants to make the manufacturing drawings.
