H has spent a whole lot of time over the past few months scanning slides that his parents had accumulated. There are literally HUNDREDS of them. The scanning is pretty much done and he’s got all the images saved on a laptop. Some, but not all, have been uploaded to Google photos. At one point or another they got dumped in a box so some are “in order” and others are not.
We’re supposed to have a (rescheduled-due-to-pandemic) family get together next June and he’d like to make a slideshow that we can present then. Nothing terribly fancy, just slides, transitions, music in the background, the ability to add titles / captions to the images, ability to export to some sort of media to give others a copy.
Any suggestions on a cheap, easy program that would get him started? Or any other suggestions? Luckily we’ve got some time - H’s not the most tech savvy person in the world, and on top of that is working on one of S’s old cast-off laptops. (I believe it’s still running Windows 8)
I am not a tech guru, but I am a teacher! The easiest software to import his slides and to share with others would be to use Google Slides. I don’t know how to record music with Google Slides, but whenever I want to add audio to my slides, I make my presentation using Google Slides or another presentation software and then record it using Screencastify. Screencastify is also very simple to use and share.
I created something for my mother’s memorial service using PowerPoint. It was easy to create transitions, captions, and add music. It was something I already had access to, and it was available at the location where the service was held (although I brought my laptop as a backup).
Just in case you didn’t know, in PowerPoint you can do an insert photo album and then select all of your pictures in one batch and it will automatically create one picture per slide. No need to drag and drop and insert each one. Good if you have hundreds to do (or even dozens. My old boss was super low tech and had me create tons of these for project meetings)
If you have powerpoint, it is great. I have made several slide shows of that type. One for my father-in-law’s memorial service and one for my kid’s long-time sports team. That latter included a section on each of the kids plus team photos. I even added music! Not sure it is worth buying powerpoint if you don’t have it if there are free/cheap alternative.
