Slight profanity in an essay?

Hi, so I’m writing my common app essay right now, and I’m a bit unsure of using “damned” as a descriptor in my essay. I know its no where near the top of the list of no-go words, but still, I don’t want to send the wrong message.

My essay currently ends with “It didn’t overcome insurmountable prejudices however: I couldn’t get Katie to see the light, that the Boston Red Sox were much better than those damned Yankees.”

My essay topic was on an aspect of my time in the William and Mary NIAHD program: the van rides with my crazy seminar group. Three of us in there were from MA, and so their are a few things interwoven about MA. Also most of the schools I’m applying to are down south, where the phrase “damned yankees” refers more towards the northerners than the baseball teams, so its a bit of a nod to the southern culture I’ll be transferring into. Anyways, it maintains a dual regional theme, the famous red sox/yankees rivalry and the old N/S rivalry.

I feel like I lose the N/S thing if I dont use damned, and the whole “rabid sox fan” thing doesn’t come through…

However, this is the closer, and I don’t want to leave the adm. officer with a bad taste, as southerners can tend to be a bit more straitlaced; I know their are some “yankee” adm. officers on the boards, but its like playing russian roulette to hope I’d get them.

advice?

I think you’re okay here.

same, thats totally fine.
