Slightly confused

"Thank you for the opportunity to review your application for admission to the Carnegie institute of technology, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering for Fall 2010. Each year we receive an increasing number of applications from very talented students. Because of the large number of qualified students who are interested in Electrical and Computer Engineering, we are currently unable to offer you admission to this department and have placed your name on our waiting list. However, we are impressed by your qualifications and feel that you can be successful at Carnegie Mellon. As a result you have been admitted to the other departments in the Carnegie Institute of Technology for Fall 2010. These include the departments of Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Materials Science & Engineering and our double major programs in Engineering & Public Policy and Biomedical Engineering. We are committed to meeting your need for intellectual discovery and personal growth, and we hope you will make Carnegie Mellon your university."

The way I interpret this is that I am admitted to the university and college, but am wait-listed for the major. In the case that I am not selected off of the wait-list, I will still be able to pursue one of the other majors they have named in the college. Is this correct?

Yes, ECE is very selective/limited. I have heard as long as you do well freshman year, you may be able to transfer in.

Awesome. I'll probably end up in one of the other engineering majors then.
