Slightly strange circumstances. Help would be appreciated

Last year I applied almost entirely to Ivies and received a lot of rejection letters. Instead of spending way to much money going to my backup school, I decided to take a gap year in Paris to learn French and visit my family members that live here and try the application process over again. My question is this: which section of the common app is the most appropriate place to talk about my stay in France? Should I devote my essay to it?

Also do I put my US address in the “home address” section or my address in Paris?

If that was a truly enlightening experience for you, then that would be a great essay topic! Ultimately it boils down to whether or not you’re passionate enough about the subject and whether you are able to portray the passion in your writing.

…I would put down your permanent address here in the US.

Good luck!
