Slim chance of acceptance?

I’m trying to get into UCSD’s comm. major and their whole decision thing is making me nervous

i’m a mediocre student at best with a 3.0 weighted gpa 1760 SATs

I got into davis irvine sb riverside and half ride to syracuse

Anyone else dying to know decisions?

everyone is

well you must have some stellar ec’s and essays because no offense but 3.0 weighted is quite below the average of irvine sb and davis, at least to my knowledge. kudos to you for those acceptances! san diego could still be possible if you have amazing ec’s and essays. what were your ec’s?

uhh essays I kind of just wrote them last second I didn’t put much thought into it I wrote whatever was in my heart ont he last day

EC’s isn’t all-star caliber either , I’m anchoring the school television news, editor of yearbook/newspaper, president of the schools volunteer club with 800+ hours, 3 Varsity Sports, Student Council, Producer of our local community televised channel, and interned overseas tv stations for 2 summers.

never say never… but either way you’ve already gotten into some great schools.

okay j0ey0ey, being a part of 3 varsity sports, 800+community service hours, producer of community televised channel and intern overseas is pretty crazy. congrats btw!

yeah your ecs must have made up for it!

and since your major does have like… everything to do with your stellar ECs, i’d say you have a pretty good chance.

generally, communications is pretty easy to get into anyhow

agreed. your ec’s ARE amazing. come on, 800+ hours community service? that’s way sweet. your producer ec sounds sweet. good luck to you! you totally sound up for the communications major… which is coincidentally the major i applied to as well!

are you URM?

haha those ec’s are crazy.

ucsd goes by a point system so i think it’s going to be harder than the others because your gpa/sat already put you in a bit of a hole.

yeah ur EC’s are crazy, freakin’ 800 hours of community service? damn

3.0 weighted? no way the minimum requirement to all UCs is a 3.0 unweighted. Therefore it is not possible for you to apply and get accepted, since your unweighted is lower than 3.0. I think you mean 4.0 weighted?

No, there are other things that can make up for it (like higher test scores) so you can still qualify

Uhmm…dude you have pretty impressive EC’s. Don’t be so modest, you really are a well-rounded individual, though your academic skills tend to be lacking ,but GOOD LUCK!!!

i’m sure it’s 4.0 w, but even if not…there is a reason he got accepted to all those schools.

I’m pretty sure the requirement is 3.0 weighted but anyway, all UCs admit up to 5% of their student population yearly “by exception” - aka not meeting minimums.

woww…nice ec
congratz on getting into all those UCs!
but i think it might be a bit of a stretch for u ta get into UCSD, but hey they use a weird ass point system so who knows…

its barely over 3.0 i never took any APs until my senior year so yeah

thx for all the encouragement

the ucsd admission system keeps messing with me

I think you can still get in, and for the rest of you who think this person can’t get in, stop hating. Besides, who are you to say this person can’t get in?

There’s a difference between hatin and being pragmatic. Based on past acceptance/rejections, the chances for j0ey0ey to get into UCSD are fairly low. This is further reinforced by the fact that UCSD displays for all to see the rubric in quantified point form on how they judge an applicant worthy or not for the school.

Obviously there’s always hope, but giving false hope to say that someone will get in for sure, or even reasonably for sure, would do more harm than good. Of course I still think that j0ey0ey has a chance, especially should his EC’s and such be as good as other people have mentioned. If he got into UCD, and if UCD’s acceptance rate this year seems to be ~50%, then getting into UCSD, which typically falls into ~40%, is certainly not out of his capabilities.
