For AP human geography, I have take notes (usually 4-8 pages) out of my textbook. Why is it that it always takes me so long to take notes out of a few pages? My teacher wants everyone to do so three column notes so we do that but I don’t think that’s the cause. For example I just did a 5 page reading and it took me an hour and a half to take notes on this. I’ve asked others and they’ve told me to paraphrase, maybe that’s the problem? Any tips on paraphrasing, or just note taking in general?
Thanks!
Are you writing complete passages from the book as part of your note taking? If you are, that’s likely the problem.
Taking consise notes that help you understand the material is very important. You shouldn’t copy every detail- if the style of notes/Testing that teacher does requires you to know tiny details, ask in advance what’s important.
For paraphrasing, come up with your own shorthand to make notes consise but still in depth.
Look at your notes and see if you are writing unnecessary words. THE and AND can slow you down. Your library may have books on Speedwriting (different from shorthand).
