Slow day at work?

I read CC from time to time. Well actually with any forum, it sometimes becomes an addiction.

So in my own 12 step, I have to admit I have a problem. But in my defense, I do this when I have to be at work and find my self with nothing to do.

Anyone else?

I hope you don’t mind…but I moved this to the Parent Cafe.

Before I retired and while our son was at boarding school, I kept a separate window open on my screen at work just for the CC prep forums so I could feel connected to that community and keep abreast of the chatter, kinda like some people listen to the radio all day. His school also had a video cam pointed at a main walkway through campus, and I often kept that up, too. Whenever DS picked up a package from us from the mail room, he’d ping me and tell me he’d wave at me in a minute or two as he walked by the cam back to his room or class.

This early, constant connection to a specific CC community with all its helpfulness and camaraderie (we used to have a lot of fun on those forums) kept me here long after our son’s HS and college days and my work life ended.

Addiction? I guess so. My name is ChoatieMom, and I have a problem…

I’m someone who needs lots of mental breaks when I work. Whether it’s getting up and moving or just exiting off a work thing for literally 2 mins and then jumping back in to work.

Instead of taking an official “lunch” break I take several small breaks to nourish during the day and use that time to internet bop. I never have “nothing to do” at work but staying connected to something like CC or family texts through the day just helps me get through the work day where I work largely by myself - helps me feel “social” in an otherwise isolated setting.

Right now I’m having my 2pm-ish lunch!

I have a program on my computer that blocks sites for a certain period of time (I chose 25 minutes) then unblocks them for a few minutes (5 in my case). It has helped me with my addiction!

I used to let myself check social media and CC while I was waiting for people to show up for zoom meeting. At least I got some fun out of people’s lack of punctuality!

I never checked any of my own things when I was working. Out IT folks could track every site we were on. It was very clear that we were not expected to use personal social media or Amazon or anything else personal from our work place ever.

When I was working…any sites I wanted to visit myself happened on my own time using my own ISP from my home.

Since I work from home exclusively, I have to monitor myself, ha. Nobody else is checking up on me.

Now I have to get some work done!

My day is usually back to back with meetings. I get a breather when a meeting has large participants and I am not expected to speak, that’s when I will check out CC, FB, and other social medias. It’s why I like to be in an office so no one could see my screen.
Right now there is a town hall going on.

I’m always “ON” for the entire 12 hours I’m working. A code or something can happen any moment and I’m the only RT with a couple nurses who may or may not have any experience, no doctor in house. I need something almost mindless and distracting that can be set aside when I’m needed for whatever and picked back up easily. I gave up trying to read books years ago. Ha I had typed out the post and got called to bedside before posting. CC is educational and the least toxic social media site compared to Reddit and facebook so I spent too much time here.
