SLR--please help me understand this

In the “help tip” for “are you a dependent of a California resident”, it says the following:

“A student who has not been an adult resident of California for more than one year and who is the dependent child of a California resident who has been a resident for more than one year immediately prior to the residence determination date may be entitled to resident classification until the student has resided in California for the minimum time necessary to become a resident so long as continuous attendance is maintained at an institution.”

By adult resident, what do they mean? Do they mean an 18-year old, a 21 year old, or a 24 year old? I identified myself as dependent on FAFSA, so would the same be applied here? If it’s relevant, I’ve lived in California my whole life.

An Adult is 18 and over. If you put on your FAFSA that you are a dependent of your parents, then you say the same in the SLR.
