Today I went out and timed my 2 minute mile to post on the candidate SLS info page.

My time was 13:52.63

Where do you think this will put me in SLS? The fast, middle, or slow range? What do you think??

Sounds fabulous. If you’re a girl you maxed that portion of the APFT, if you’re a guy, cut a minute or something to max out.

I’m a boy, and I definitely could do better. I haven’t run outside varsity soccer practice… we run a 1.25 mile cross country loop about 2-3 times a week lol

If I started running more often I bet I could lose a minute or close to it!

Sprints. My parents are prepping me for a 10min 2 mile because they have misplaced faith in my supposedly inherited running skills (more like jumping because my 100 hurdles was within .5sec of without hurdles)

Do lots of sprints.

Soccer I presume either spring or fall? Do you do other sports? Cheerleading is year round. I never had off season…till NOW.

Yeah, soccer is right now–Spring. In the summer I do football summer workouts and play table tennis competitively, in the winter I swim, and in the spring I play soccer…

I am a STUDENT ATHLETE lol. I play sports year round and that is my life!

When I was in high school… oh gee. Being a cheerleader labeled me as the village idiot (nevermind being an AP Scholar with Distinction). Being a flyer made people think I had an eating disorder (staying 95-105 does kinda suck but I didn’t starve, just ran extra laps, lol)

Varsity and All Star cheer plus track = no personal life. Actually, that matches up with being honorary sci-o! I feel warm and fuzzy inside now.

there were two cheerleaders at my school who were valedictorians (my school had 13) and they’ve made straight A’s since middle school (because of the steep competition for valedictorian, grade checking goes as far back as 6th grade). its just a stereotype. like how when we’re comissioned, people are going to think we kill for a living or something, even if your MOS is paralegal…

i’ve taken the APFT and my 2-mile run time is around 14:50. yeah… never walk.

Hence my mention of the AP deal. We never however had a cheerleader in Cum Laude. Very few “functional” athletes make cum laude- those who do are typically the ones who are written on the team but don’t actually do much or show up when they’re supposed to. My class had I think 3 excellent athletes in cum laude (and one not so excellent…)

Yea, I had my 14min 2mile as a captain… I miss fitness. I don’t miss my chronic shin splits.

Never walk you say? There was a freshman boy who carried me to all of my classes every day during my senior year. (lucky for him his classes were somehow next door…and it was in no way a form of hazing, he willingly chose to carry me)

For our valedictorian they usually carry the GPA out to 4.xxxx and we unfortunately have a slight weight for APs (3.0 becomes 3.4 and only applies to that class) so slackers sometimes get into cum laude just for picking the easy way out.

Im going to SLS but why do they want a two mile time. Also are a lot of people who go to SLS in really good shape.

I went to SLS in good shape, but I was in the minority. Most people were way out of shape, and they don’t even use your 2 mile time. They put you in running groups based on your CFA mile time. SLS is easy physically, so don’t worry about it.
